Well, Rose.....putting it your way, I suppose I prefer to be liked because if you like someone, you must have respect for them or you wouldn't like them.

I must have respect, but prefer it to come from being liked, not feared.

I suppose Elwood in "Harvey" could be an early version of Forest Gump but James Stewart always wins hands down & he's friends with a rabbit who is six feet, three and a half inches tall called Harvey.

i used to care what folks thought about me .not now ...i know those that know me lubs me lots ,and they the ones who count.so .......i suppose my answer is ...i dont give a flying fig lol

lol Uzzi, I think too much! The mint sauce was lovely though ,on new potatoes from the garden :))

Very similar experience with a friend myself ,so I know what you mean . I have in the past probably been 'too nice' when I really shouldn't have been , hoping that someone will like me, but it doesn't work out that way really. So now I would rather people respect me I think, even if they don't like me lol.

I like to be liked and believe that often like and respect do go hand in hand, but I have liked a friend because she was witty and funny but I'm afraid I didn't have much respect for her. Needless to say that lack of respect did eventually see the friendship drift apart.
If I can't be liked then I hope that I can claim some respect as a person. I do respect people for several reasons who I do find that I can't like.

If i like someone i respect them, there are some people i do not like much but i have respect for who they are, we are all different.

Maz, there is nothing shallow about wanting to be liked - I think it's perfectly natural. I reckon some of us have just fought against the instinct so hard we haven't got it anymore;)
