Uggers get yourself one of those beautifully illustrated nursery rhyme books. I've kept a couple of them here at home and a beautiful fairy tale book that I read often to the kids... and myself:) They have a rhythm to them that is quite soothing.

Sounds like the best place to be Mo.......lol......nothing quite as pleasant as dwelling in childhood memories : )

Having said that Andy Pandy wasn't one of my favs , with my name being Mandy and having big brothers that poked fun on a daily basis..........lol

My girls would sing themselves to sleep with nursery rhymes, my son would just rock his cot across the floor until I tranquilised him :-))

full version Uggs

I had a little nut tree,
Nothing would it bear
But a silver nutmeg,
And a golden pear;
The King of Spain's daughter
Came to visit me,
And all for the sake
Of my little nut tree.

Her dress was made of crimson,
Jet black was her hair,
She asked me for my nut tree
And my golden pear.
I said, "So fair a princess
Never did I see,
I'll give you all the fruit
From my little nut tree.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
Daddy bought me a motor car;
Push the handle, pull the choke,
Off we go in a cloud of smoke.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
Daddy bought me a motor car

Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
Daddy bought me a motor car;
Push the handle, pull the choke,
Off we go in a cloud of smoke.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
Daddy bought me a motor car.

There's one they used to sing when my youngest was at nursery.....to the tune of twinkle twinkle little star.

Along the lines of *Daddy has a rusty car*

Not sure it's a nursery rhyme but it's one I remember hearing them sing as I waited outside the door for her lol xx

Alice in Wonderland

Hi Uggers

I too am fascinated about the 'history' behind nursery rhymes. Apparently 'Ring a Ring of Roses...' related to the Plague of London.

Jack and Jill
Humpty Dumpty
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
Little Bo-Peep
There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe

There are so many that I'd love to know more - anyone know of a good book that'll explain them?

In all preschools we are again learning them, as it helps with children's early literacy skills
