Mine used to have a carry cot/pram attachment which would also fit on the pram base.

If I was going to be out shopping for any length of time then I DID used to transfer her to that......but for short journeys the car seat on wheels was dead useful !!!!

I used to walk all the time after I had the eldest...using the pram attachment as opposed to the carseat one.....hours and hours of wandering aimlessly around because the motion of the pram used to send her off to sleep when lying in a cot just didn't lol.

Trouble was by the time youngest came along.......eldest was always too worn out from play school/nursery to come walking with me.....so we missed out on that a bit xx

**have to say youngest hasn't suffered through being deprived of her pram walks lol xx

*frets...I just want to know what a halfwit holiday is as I don't want to miss out on nowt....

I don't look at babies these days, but I am sure everything has been scientifically tested etc......all I know is that my baby faced me in the pram so I could admire and chat to him:-)

Hayley.......there is one of those very ugly contraptions of which you are speaking in my living room at the moment..........I don't like it either but they wouldn't listen to me : (

I think the general idea is that baby is more on " parade " because it's higher up if it's in the car seat bit. The silliest thing as far as I'm concerned is that you have to get the baby out ( thus disturbing it ) as soon as you reach your destination because ( as has been said ) it isn't good for their spines to be in it for very long...........I think they are stupid .

I really don't think it does baby any good to be put in a sitting position, without enough spinal support when they are less than three months old. I was always told don't attempt to sit him up until he is holding his head up comfortable, as his spine won't be strong enough.

Now I see these car seat contraptions doing just the opposite. Surely baby should be laid flat...

Maybe I'm just old fashioned. I had a proper pram for mine, and walked everywhere. I never learned to drive, but I would walk the mile to school and back every day, and when they were tiny, I had them both in the pram and walked four miles into the next town for the weekly shopping, visit mum for lunch and back home again every week.

And I wonder why my hip was replaced LOL

Evening Ladies

On seeing your thread Hayley, I must say it does not seem right

to see very young babies sitting more or less bolt upright in one,

of those new pushchair contraptions,,, surely this is very bad,

for a developing baby,s spine and/or back ??? much better

laying flat in a pram I think ?

Some of the designs leave a very small gap between the hoods of pushchair and carseat. I saw one in town yesterday. There may even have been a baby inside, but I couldn't see one.

I have converted my daughter to "proper prams " ,(we know have 23 between us full size and dolls) .I do not drive so nearly always use one of the big prams but it takes me twice as long to do anything as I am always stopped and chatted to. The ladies want to have a push and the men ask if they can have the wheels to make a trolley/go cart /boggey .
Baby in the pram toddler on the pram seat and shopping in the false bottom and you can still push with one hand.
We have a modern pushchair for the car.

Kay???? Report 8 May 2009 18:37

and thats why babies and toddlers are always at the doctors with all sorts of colds and stuff....

lack of fresh air !! and lack of not being able to wrap them up warmly as there is no room for any covers,,

and they are out tiny tiny new babies in them buggy things when baby is just a few days or hours old,,,exposing to all sorts,,,,

I had a "proper" pram for all of ours, complete with sun canopy:))

I like pushchairs facing me as well.............you get to chat away as you walk along and see if the baby or toddler is alright instead of peeking to look every now and again.

I have always walked ours to school..................but then it's only 10 minutes away:))
