I am so glad my children have long left school. What a mine field it is for them there, nowadays.

Kellie, I'm personally not happy with mixed race or black kids being called 'monkey' as a form of defence or attack but that's just how I feel - my views are a bit coloured by vaguely similar incidents with my niece and my god-daughter.

I'm not up on the rules and regs of it all tbh Kerrie but if it were my daughter in this position I'd make an appointment to see the head at the earliest possible moment.

I would then write a letter detailing the meeting and send it on to school governors if I was dissatisfied with the outcome, demanding a meeting with them.........then take it from there.

Hope it all works out for the best in the long run xx

you have to understand colour did not come into the comment he was pulling faces and acting like a monkey. while i understand as an adult the comment was inappropriate it was in this instant used by a child who did not understand that it could be offensive if used correctley with the intent to associate his skin colour with the term.
when there is any hint of discrimination whether it be racism, sexism, ageism it seems commen sense goes out of the window and the PC brigade come marching in destroying everything in its path, innocent or not.

As I said before, get a copy of the policy on racial abuse, and check that the school have followed it. Once you have ascertained that, then request an appointment with the Headteacher to discuss it further.

None of us were there. As I said earlier, if the facts are as you state then it appears a bit harsh and you need to talk to the school. You may not have the right of audience with a panel of Governors unless it is part of an appeals process, and you can't begin the appeals process until you have discussed the matter with the school.

With the very greatest respect, at this moment you only have your daughter's take on the situation. You can canvass opinion until you are blue in the face, but you really need to visit the school and discuss this there. Until then, anything else is conjecture.

Obviously Tony has given really good advice on this, and I agree that none of us were there, and therefore whatever we say will be mere conjecture, but,

the phrase the boy used in his question (just about word for word) has been used numerous times by a good few friends of my sons (very similar age to Kellie's daughter) mainly by black & asian friends, but once or twice by white kids too, said by all of those friends as a joke, and (importantly) copied from a popular Ali G character. So I hope that whoever investigates the alleged racist remarks will consider the full picture.
