Phew, second hot, hot hot day on the trot. Just did a short walk out to the cliff then stopped on the way back to share a plate of calamare and small chips and a plate of tuna salad, a hot bread roll and butter each plus half litre white wine in the shade. All very pleasant, very hot on our patio. Last evening was beautiful we were still sitting out at 9.30 with amaretto having eaten spanish omelette and salad in, too hot to walk out to a restaurant.

Morning Daff, just a quicky for the moment. I was thinking of you yesterday. I had read that you said you were having a little difficulty with an author. I went passed a ' Headway ' charity shop yesterday afternoon, and saw a collection of books in the window by an authoress that I am not familiar with. Don't know why, but I wondered if it was the one you mentioned. All those books.
Your morning drizzle is due to a weather front coming in from the west. Well west of us, so that makes it in your area. This has made it less bright here today, but sun trying to get through. So, it is outside workable here today, when I get moving.
Did my conservatory yesterday, but I don't think it is as big as yours.LOLOL
Take care, speak soon

We have the drizzle this morning, so I expect Ann will have the sunshine, lol.... my little icon is telling me to expect more of the same, and thundery to boot.... *sigh* still, the garden is desperate for a really good downpour.... having clay soil, parts of it are cracking already.....

BC.... spend, spend, spend, girl!!

Hope the weather is beautiful in Tenerife, Ann..... That is so sad about T's mum... R's much loved Nan died at 65 of cervical cancer (1978). She might have been caught in time had they had screening then.... far too advanced by the time they knew anything was wrong. What a dreadful waste of life.

Photos are lovely, Maz.... is that you reading at the service? Everyone looked fabulous... N looked stunning... and you wash and brush up lovely as well, lol... I'll put them on my Facebook page... it is friends or invite only, so there won't be any problems... It'll take me an hour or so to remember how to do them, mind, lol.... I have always been a bit scatty, but I am dreadful these days... and I'll pm you with the link once it's up, ok?

Maz has given me permission to share them, so if you'd like the link, please pm me!! For some reason, I am unable, mostly, to get a photo to e-mail... sometimes I am lucky, but usually it just sits there, in the file, refusing point blank to shift out and share!! Grrrr!!

Huia, that is so sad, and CML is so treatable these days as well. I know just how lucky we are, those of us who are unfortunate enough to get it.

Mummo.... that had me laughing my socks off, lolol I can just imagine their faces!! But hey, if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing properly......

Well, today, I am going to be a domestic Goddess and try to finish the conservatory... seeing as the sky is dribbling.

Have a wonderful day, whatever way you play with it!

Love

Sad isn't it Huis that so many died before progress was made in cures. My OH's mother died in 1958 of cancer, she would not have died if it was now as it would have been found earlier and she would have had treatment to cure it.

Huia Report 18 May 2010 21:38

Daff, I dont add much on this thread, but I have followed it with great interest, since my dad died of CML in 1965, aged 66. If only they had the knowledge then that they have now. He was far too young to die, but then as the saying goes 'only the good die young'.

Lol BC.... and to have as my consultant Top Doctor Man... he is heading up one part of the research, and isn't a *proper* consultant at the hospital... he is part of the Research team not the Haemotology team, so specialises in specific patients... I am one of them, so am very lucky indeed. He does do extra, of course, but does draw off those with specific AML.....

I was very very lucky.... and have a leprechaun guardian angel... did I ever tell you about that???

I might keep it as a contribution one week for the Writer's Block...... it was so bizarre and such a scream.

****Cardiff University's leukaemia excellence award
Acute myeloid leukaemia cells among blood cells
Over 2,000 adults are diagnosed with AML every year

Cardiff University is being named the UK's first Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research centre of excellence.

It is part of the national blood cancer charity's plans to focus its investment in leading research institutions.

Cardiff is looking at the two most common forms of adult leukaemia - acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL).

Current research aims to allow doctors to predict who will respond to treatment and how effective drugs are.

The charity has invested more than £1m at the university's school of medicine so far this year and around £6.5m in the last decade. ****

Many of you have supported me during my fight against Leukaemia, and I have always maintained how lucky I have been with the support I have had, and also for the timing ... I got this dreadful disease at the best time for me agewise, and also with the type of treatment that was becoming available... I wouldn't have had this level virtually anywhere else in the UK... and I am still forming part of a 30 year trial.... my bone marrow biopsy's are all recorded, and some of each one is stored for future reference. Some people with AML are able to be told which genes have become faulty... sometimes this means a good prognosis, other times it is bad. I fell in the *normal* range, which means they still haven't found a cytogenic reason for the mutation.

I am soooo proud of that team, they were, and are brilliant, and soooooo deserve this recognition.

Because of them, I am here today.

~~~~~~ to Mau... it was fun, wasn't it?? I thought my knowledge was *coughs* excellent, actually... for someone who hasn't been to the pictures since Billy Elliott came out...... and watches almost exclusively Disney... although I watched Atavar the other week, R bought it when it came out on DVD, and I really enjoyed it.... didn't have a clue what was going on, but enjoyed the visuals, lolol
S'all right, Ann... hope you enjoyed your walk... I didn't sit out and read... well I started to, and then realised that the mess in the conservatory had to be tackled.... so I have been trying to sort out in here.
I am tired now... but good tired, lol..... dinner is egg beans and chips for R and B... I am having the fish bake I didn't have yesterday.... it is in the microwave as I type... 8.30 is far too late for me to eat. I will get everything ready, but R will finish it all off.
Well... that was a little Ping I heard... off for my dinner now. See you all later.
Me, me !! I was there yesterday, Ann, honest!!
*sobs* cos Ann didn't see me!! lolol
Hope the sun came out for you, after all, Ann....... what are you doing today?
~~~~to Maz, aw bless.... it's awful going back after a nice break... not that you've had a chill out, but it was more enjoyable stuff than boring old work! Has Gizmo forgiven you for shutting him in the kitchen yet?

BC, same here, cloudless blue skies. I am not sure whether to go and sit in the garden... I have a book by an author I usually love, but I just can't get into it, partly because it is uncomfortable to hold.... and I start to fidget, and so lose track. Although I read one by her over the weekend, and didn't fidget at all. This was one of her early ones. Maybe I just don't like it. :¬(( Anyway, maybe I shall be more comfortable on my chair in the garden...... at the table (which is currently serving as a salad crop table, lol

I did do well once you had stopped distracting me by chucking stuff at me... I got ALL the last one right... and bits of the others, so there! And got lots of tasty bits around the films as well, purely as additional interest... that really should have earned me the title, I reckon ;¬))

Have a lovely day in the park !

Have a wonderful day, everyone, however you choose to spend it!
