What a f***ing liberty!

I love Catherine Tate. I just have to look at her face, or faces should I say, and I'm in stitches. Didn't realise that our Kevin B Wilson was popular in the UK - we love him here.

Yes he does have a habit of laughing at his own jokes, and as I said it was 1974 and we'd not seen him before. He apparantly said a very stupid remark about that poor man Ken Biggley the hostage on stage, and many people walked out, quite rightly so.

Billy Connolly -

absolutely love to hear him talk when he does his tours of Oz or Scotland etc, being just himself and finding out about the places he's visiting. Very very clever, and funny, & engaging. But the bits from his stand-up show I really don't find even remotely amusing.

Comedy, it's a funny old game.

I think I've seen Kevin Wilson, he's on Al murray's show too isn't he? He pushes the boundaries to say the least, but yes I think he's good if it's the fella I'm thinking of. Roy Chubby Brown didn't start off as a blue comic did he...think it was out of frustration and desperation! He's a nice bloke in real life like many comics.

Just googled Kevin Wilson, and no it's not the comic i'm thinking of...oops!

I remember the first time I saw Billy Conolly on the telly, it was about the time I met my husband so (1974.) he was on Parkinson, he was like a breath of fresh air! My mum was from glasgow, so maybe I have that kind of sense of humour. Rab C. Nesbitt, I love that show.

Yes Dickie Henderson, there's a name from the past and I imagine he was very good live Sharron. Very slick. So sad he died quite young i believe. I remember he used to play a drunk and slide off the stool, he was quite unique really.

I think that Peter Kay, as a stand up comic, is in a league of his own!

As I haven't saw the 'Amarillo' programme yet,I cannot comment on it's content.

Other comedians that I like are Ed Byrne( Pam mentioned him), and our own , Mr Billy Connolly.

How about Kevi Bl**dy Wilson then? I have seen him three times, there's a confession eh?

Dickie Henderson was rubbish on the television but I saw him live once. His timing was extraordinary.I truly slid off my seat laughing and he only said a silly little nursery rhyme thing.

Hey diddle, diddle, the cat had a tiddle,
All over the bathroom floor.
The little dog laughed to see such fun.
So the cat had a tiddle some more.

That brought the house down!

Hi Maria, I can't not like Eric and Ernie either, those shorts and garters of Eric's, very funny! Yes I know what you mean though, it's difficult to choose a favourite. You can pick a few if you like...I'm not very strict am I!?

My hubby says his favourites are, Benny Hill, think it's a lot to do with Hills Angels though!!

Who can not love Morecambe & Wise?

Come on Sharron, don't have me falling out with you before we've even met :O)

Maria xxx

PS - Pam - just asked OH - his fave comic, after careful consideration of many, is Steve Coogan. Can't think who mine is - it's hard to pick just one.

Hi Maria, nice to see your name up here! Yes you're so right this is a thread where we can all have a say in who we thinks funny and not so funny. Steve Coogen is good though isn't he!

Sharron, i'm with you about tommy cooper, I've seen people cry with laughter over him, and that was before he opened his mouth! but no, I didn't find him that funny.

Watched an Irish comic on Stand Up on sky the other night, Ed Bryn...he was brilliant, I was crying with laughter. I'd seen him on the the panel in comedy kind of quize shows before, but didn't realise how funny he was. ☺

Tommy Cooper didn't make me laugh at all, neither does Norman Wisdom and Morecambe and Wise didn't do a lot for me either.

Wouldn't get much done if we all had the same sense of humour would we?

Maria

Maria Report 16 Mar 2009 19:10

Ooh Pam,

I really like Peter Kay, especially his stand up. But Bernard Manning leaves me cold - totally unfunny, in my opinion.

don't you think comedy is one of those things, like music, that we can all have our own likes & dislikes.

Anyway, I won't be turning nasty cos you're my mate, lol

Lots of love from

Maria xxxx

Edit - Paul & Pauline Calfe do make me laugh too
