Just realized what the 'white page' is, having visited it 6 times in as many minutes lol.

If GR could resolve that problem I would be pleased, takes so long to reach any.

To resolve it, you have to click the back arrow to return from whence you came and will arrive back where you needed to be if that makes sense.

Just thought of something else:

As we're all paying to use the site, GR, could you please remove these incredibly irritating adverts. Thank you.

Hi Joan, you easily check to see if you have this feature. Just by rubbing your finger up & down on the right hand side of the pad.

To de-activate it (on Vista)

Click on Start button
Then on Control Panel
In this screen look for Hardware and Sound
Click on Mouse
In this new screen Mouse properties there are six tabs
Click on the one named Device settings
Click on settings
In this new screen Synaptics, there is a list of items
click on Virtual Scrolling
Untick Verical & Horizontal Scrolling
Click on Apply & OK.

Regards,
Steve

Hi Joan, most lappys have a scrolling feature on the pad, usually on the right hand side of it. This all to easy to accidently activate when using the keyboard. This could be the cause of your scrolling problem.
I also found this to be a problem so have now deactivated it.

Hi Stephen

Sorry I'm a bit late answering, I'm using IE nd this all only happens on my lappy, but now you've told me about the scroll bit on the pad, I can see what oyu mean, it's marked off in red and I never noticed before, so thanks for that.

Hi everyone

Barb, Stevie, if you accidentally click the left side of your mouse this can cause your page to whizz up and down, just click it again and it will stop.

I have Firefox, no probs there for me.

I do have the same thing you Stevie with the submit button, have to remember also to 'cut' my text before sending just in case, then I use the back arrow, return, paste my message, click submit, usually works.

I never get the white envelope, i have to keep clicking on messages to see if i have any,

dont know why, but some people may think they are being ignored, thats not the case x

Stevie

Stevie Report 21 Feb 2009 13:39

For some reason, not everyone receives the white envelope when they receives a pm.

I also find the submit button takes at least 10 seconds to place a message. It seems to freeze as if about to crash & on occassions does crash....pm lost!!! Very frustrating. I try to remember to copy the text 1st for just in case, before submitting.

Barbara, are you using IE or firefox. I tried firefox & found this has a similar scrolling probelm. Also are you using a mouse or laptop pad. My lappy pad has a scrolling part, which is easy to accidently activate when using the keyboard.

Also can you add your browser you use & type of internet connection please. (PC modem, lappy wirless etc)

Steve.

Just a little moan,
But could we have a sign that shows us when we have a PM?
Next to message box?

Dormouse Report 21 Feb 2009 11:27

Morning Steve,

My browser is IE7, OS is Windows XP and I have a modem broadband connection.

Right, problems experienced (and I have contacted GR about these but the reply didn't help, as it was a basic 'how to navigate your tree' email which didn't address my problem).

1. Site keeps freezing. I can never stay on for longer than 20 minutes without having to log in again. (although, I'm having fewer problems now I'm logging in via the Australian address). I do not have this problem with any other site I frequently use.
2. On the Boards, when I go to add a post, the white box appears but, the moment I start typing, it vanishes and the cursor is down at the foot of the page, amongst all the links.
3. When I click 'submit' it doesn't seem to do anything so after ten seconds or so, I click 'submit' again, only to find that it's done it twice.
4. The site is often frustratingly slow to load; this applies to the boards bit and my family tree.
5. The drop-down boxes in the tree are very annoying as they are too sensitive and I find myself carefully trying to negotiate around my tree without touching an ancestor's box. I can see that they can be useful but (maybe this is just my tree?) when I've inadvertently activated one, it just sits there and doesn't go away, until I click on another box. They take up a lot of space and are very annoying if I just want to look at a family unit or whatever.
6. On the message boards, I like to have the most recent reply of any thread at the top, so I'm adding above it, as it were, but I have to click the box selecting Last Reply, about three times before it happens.
Apart from all that (!) I'm pretty happy........................ :)
