Just an update....... you wont believe this!
I "bumped" into them accidently on purpose last evening and told them about the vets and showed them the bill. I then said " So now you really MUST stop feeding my cats.
Their reply was......... "well your other cat can eat them".!!!!!!
To that I replied, " If I have to go to the vets again, with any similar problems, YOU will be footing the bill!!"
Si if I find one more bl@@dy scrap in my garden, I will call the RSPCA.
Thanks for all your support.

Wow! I'd be really mad if I were you. What very odd behaviour.

Even if you go over with the vet's bill, they might keep throwing over the scraps without the bones. Perhaps your vet could write a letter and make them see sense?

My cat is skinny, she doesn't eat a great deal and sits at her dish chewing very daintily, I know my neighbours feed her but she does go to stay with them if we're away, so I don't mind but I would be cross if they gave her anything but cat food, we don't and the only treats she has are cat treats.
Pass them the bill Taff, maybe they don't understand and if they keep it up, then I'll senda in the heavies lol

No more pussyfooting around. However elderly they are they are being irresponsible and they need to be told that if they do it again you WILL ask them to pay for the vets bill they have already cost you.

As an aside, we had a ginger kitten when I was growing up. He grew to be a real greedyguts with a qualification from RADA. He had a limp from being run over and he would limp very badly and suck his cheeks in to make him look skinny if he thought he could scrounge food off of strangers!

One set of neighbours installed a cat flap which was a bad move as Tiger would steal their cats food. Then my mum got a new neighbour who hated cats. Not for long though, within 6 months Tiger was allowed into her house to sleep on her bed and she would feed him the gourmet cat food. He also loved scrounging chips with tomato Ketchup on off of my OH!

He lived the life of Riley to the ripe old age of 22

lol, Barb,. it's broken bones that started this!!!
I will have to pay them a visit, and just have the vets bill to hand.
I really cant allow then to injure my cats, however well meaning they are.

Show them the vets bill and ask them once more not to 'donate' scraps or maybe tell them a white lie and say for health reasons the vet has reccomended your cat has a very specfic diet, so while the cat might like the extra food it could be killing them??
or
Call the councils pest control in if there is a rat/mouse problem and they will no doubt go and speak to them.

If it were me, eldery or not I'd be having strong words with them, as however well meaning their actions, those actions could kill your cat. As for wrapping stuff in plastic thats a danger to your cat and every other form of wild life that vists your garden, I think most children know not to litter as its dangerous to animals.

Taff, good way to stop them is to empty there Litter trays into their garden, saying you,re feeding them so you can have the end result, they may then stop. **M**.

Tell them your cat doesn't eat them but the rat population in the gardens do. (show the cat run under the hedge and tell them its a rat run LOL)

Hi Taff,

I don't agree with it but it still puzzles me why don't they just feed your cats in their own garden....in a bowl. After all you don't want plastic bags in your garden and they would get the pleasure of seeing your cats eat.

I would nicely mention the visit to the vet....I'm not suggesting you ask them for money (that's up to you) but it will make them aware that their actions are hurting your cats.

Hope your cat feels better soon

Dormouse Report 7 Feb 2009 12:45

Taff,
Your cat situation reminded me of what happened with my cat (although this is a light-hearted story).
I had an extremely friendly cat who unbeknownst to me, was also being fed by the neighbours on both sides of us.
We fed him a well-known brand of cat food that would have had eight out of ten cats saying 'ta very much, that's lovely'. But my cat started turning his nose up at it. Although he wasn't losing weight, I did get concerned and took him off to the vet for a once-over. Vet was perplexed and said he looked very well fed for a cat off his grub!! I had to pay for that consultation.
Well, I happened to go down to my elderly neighbour's and there on the floor was a cat dish, piled high with fresh cooked chicken. I was a bit puzzled as my neighbour didn't have a cat - but then in strolled my cat Sam, who polished off the bowl of chicken and then looked up at my neighbour, who sheepishly filled the bowl with milk!! Sam tucked in and then strolled over to sit down in front of the fire and sort out his milky whiskers.
Turned out the neighbour on the other side was buying tins of salmon for Sam.................
Not saying anything against tinned cat food but Sam lived til he was 20 :)))

I had a deaf cat some years ago.
He used to fall asleep on the pavement in the sunshine,a kind lady! many many times rushed him to the vet thinking he was unconscious,it cost me a fortune.Eventually to save all the silliness, i asked her if she would like to have the cat, which she did.She kept him as a house cat,and fed him liver and steak etc which she lovingly cooked herself.
I believe they were very happy together.

Give puss a pet from me. I off to see if I can actually get any sleep in this heat. Night. - Michelle

Taff

Taff Report 7 Feb 2009 11:43

Oh yes, Michelle, they wrap the scraps up very nicely in plastic!
The worst part of it was, the vet couldnt give my cat any pain relief as he has cancer of the liver, and hasnt long left anyway, but we count every day as a blessing.

Michelle

Michelle Report 7 Feb 2009 11:36

Taff - Tell me about it, he also doesn't like water much either. Has been going for wades in the river lately to cool down but normally wouldn't spend much time in there.

Can't believe your neighbours throw plastic bags with the scraps.

Maggie , the year before last, they gave my sons a tent ............with no poles! They have given me a pair of hedge loppers, and the blades didnt even meet, I couldnt open them for the rust!!!
My next step will be to threaten them with fly tipping! As being polite is costing me dearly!
