I must admit that initially, I didn't notice the handbag!! I wonder what her daughter thinks - most teenagers seem to be easily embarassed by their parents anyway.

Thats the whole point, it doesn't matter about the bag, what matters is the BRAND, Madonnas own line...that is what is being advertised, not the bag itself. You don't need to have noticed the bag, only the fact that Madonna has a line in them.

It's what is known as Brand Advertising. She is making her Brand of handbags into a household name, the first thing that is needed in any line. Then you can sell the individual items.
