That's awful. She should report the home and find a new job to be honest! But if she wants or needs to stay there she should certainly take her own gloves in. Even when you wear gloves there is a small risk so without them...

Report Report Report!!
You don't have to say who you are .Please let the Authorities know,so they can be investigated AGAIN.
Elderly people sound as though they are at risk.

Gloves are classed as Personal Protective Equipment under Health and safety legislation... your daughters employer is in breach of that legislation for not supplying them. It is not the staff's problem, but the mamagement... you can put in an anonymous complaint to the Care Homes Inspectorate... they are then legally bound to investigate your complaint. You can get your local office number from the Yellow pages... and there is a 24 hour emergency number, where a message will be taken and acted upon first thing in the morning.

'Gr' annie...you're certainly doing the right thing - not only is that unfair and illegal for the workers, it makes you wonder what other shortcuts the home is taking. Well done for doing something about it.

I'm seething here!!! and remember infection can go both ways - from the carer to the patient and vice versa - all are at risk, including the management and everyone who works and lives there and those who visit as well!!!!

also - I'm on a bigger soap box now - are the staff in a union? A union would just love to get their hands on this one. Are they in Unison?
I have long been of the opinion that conditions in care homes is the next big scandal waiting in the wings to blow up!!! We are all going older and it is in the intersts of all of us to do something about it while we can, before we need to go into care - please God I don't - but just in case

Well done, Annie; thank God you're going to report them. I'm disgusted, and hope that the culprits rot in hell. :-((
Flippy heck, I'm so angry now!
Going to sign off in a min., but again - Annie, thank goodness for people like you. And all the other good people who'd do the same.
Night night, all.

This should not be tolerated.
Would the local council have a department to report to? Or maybe they can give advice?

Regarding working practices - have a look at ACAS website
www.acas.org.uk

There are various links to take you to page you want. Some look good, and they will mediate, if you decide to go down that route. I used them on one occasion and very helpful.

Annie is probably at work still or busy with her grandson. Hope she found time to report the place, would hate to know any of my friends or relatives were in such dire straits.
