I don't remember where I was when Kennedy was assasinated .But my son burst into my bedroom early in the morning to say he just heard that Princess Diana had died.
9 /11 I was doing the ironing and mum was staying with me .She had dementia and thought we had gone to war(2ndworld war)That was a difficult one to explain.

So it looks like I'm the only person on here who was conceived as a result of JFK's death. My Mum was devastated by his death as the first rumour was the Russians were responsible. My Uncle was in the USAF and Mum thought WW3 would break out. Instead I came along 9 months later!

As for DI, I first learnt of her death on sunday morning when OH shouted up stairs. My first words on hearing the news were "Phil's had her bumped off"

I was 5 when Kennedy was killed so don't remember it. Interested to read in the papers this week that the Kennedys supported the IRA, Joe Kennedy supported Hitler over Churchill, etc etc so they weren't great fans of the British.

Diana died in the early hours of a Sunday morning - my young son woke us up early when he saw it on the news. My f-i-l died 24 hours later and OH always says that he feels everyone's grief for his father's death was tempered by the general grief for Diana.

9/11? I was busy doing housework all day, my daughter came home from school and had heard the news on the school bus. I switched on the TV and couldn't believe what I was seeing - the US under attack. A great shock.

And what about the killing of John Lennon? I was living at home and on my way out to work when I heard the news on my "trannie". I told my father who was also getting ready for work and he, who never liked pop music in general and The Beatles in particular, said, " That poor man, what has he ever done to hurt anyone?" That memory has always stayed with me and made me see my Dad in a new light.

Heard about Diana when OH came back from an early service at church on Sunday morning. I hadn't had the radio or telly on and I can remember my jaw literally dropping open with shock.

We held a special service in her memory a few days later and some folks were heartbroken.

9.11 - just back from a meeting in Liverpool cathedral - popped into a shop to look at a skirt and heard about it on the radio but couldn't believe what I was hearing. Went home and put the tv on and...................oh my goodness!

Princess Di died in the early hours of the Sunday morning.... R had arrived home late the evening before, he had been away playing soldiers. My mum phoned me with the news.

I heard about JFK at school... remember the teachers in a huddle and me being scared half to death because they were taking about war with Russia and Cuba and stuff... I legged it home crying my eyeballs out... I don't know whether I heard about it on the day, or after the event.. I was 9. But it affected me badly and was the first time I ever felt *global fear*

I was so suprised at how upset I was - I had seen her once when she came to our hospital to open a new drugs unit and she passed within a few feet of me - she was so lovely and all the staff who met her said how great she was and so down to earth - the Royal family used her like a brood mare and then cast her aside. Still, she left a lovely legacy in her sons and as for Charles - well words fail me - how he could ever have fancied Camilla rather than her I'll never understand

I was at bingo with my mil..and i remember we were all stund.

I recall it was a Saturday night too

I am pretty sure that Diana and Dodi died on a Saturday night.

My son had been on night work and when he came home he banged on our bedroom door at abour 6.30am, and told us as it had been on the news all night.

I got up straight and was glued to the television for most of the day.

For the funeral we were in Tenerife and the poolside was empty at the time of the service and they had a service in the church in Los Christianos it was packed even with Spaniards.

I always remember the date etc and where I was, just coming out of our local college after evening typing classes. I was 16 and had not long left school and did evening classes to further my work skills. I met with some friends who told me the news, we were all shocked and saddened.

think it happened on a Saturday night didn't it? I heard on the Sunday morning when my son phoned me. My lovely husband was touring Scotland with the Pendyrus Male Choir at the time and they cancelled the tour and he came home

I'm praying it doesn't happen again - thinking of Barak Obama and those fanatical white supremacists in America

I was walking into the livingroom with a cup of tea in my hand when it came on TV think I stood there for about 10mins without moving watching the screen

Downstairs. I remember shouting up to my dad who was in the bath. He got dressed and went round to see the local RC priest to commiserate with him. (JFK was RC apparently.) Strange the things you remember.
