HI Maxine
I am so sorry you are feeling down at the moment but I do symathize with you.
I go onto the Dementia Link as I have a brother with Dementia and it is hard for me to deal with.
I find telling complete strangers how I feel that I myself feel a lot better for getting it off my chest.
Family are great but sometimes it's nice to talk to people who know about these things and I find it helps me enormously.
I do hope you get some help with your son. I can't give you any advise but I do send all my best wishes to you.
Yes a good cry also helps

Kind regards
Jackie

You're quite right Maxine, there isn't enough known about some syndromes - my daughter has Asperger's - but it sounds like you're doing a grand job in very difficult circumstances. Well done.

michaels now 4,he spent the first 2 years in and out of guys hospital and my local hospital, hes still under st thomases, and kings and my local hospital, hes nearly 4 ft tall,im 5,3!!!,he weighs 4 stone and has size 13 feet,he is in 7-8 age tracksuit bottoms and is extremely strong!!! he could nt hold his very large head up until 5 months and even then this would exhaust him, but with the love and support of the physios at the hospitals he gained upper body strength,he wore heavy pedro boots to support his floppy ankles and now.... he walks, plays etc,his speech is getting their with speech therapy, yes, hes aggressive and i wont be able to handle him for much longer but i keep telling myself, maxine look how far hes come,we never thought he would you see,he has very challenging behaviour but i know hes worth it even if i dont always feel that way when im having a bad day with him,he has many fears and phobias that make every day difficult but at some point in the day at least once he makes me smile, and i want to share that if thats ok with you guys, theres not enough awareness about alot of syndromes and i feel thats a huge shame because it would help people realise what these people have to go through in their every day lives, understanding is everything! i had to keep it short,i could write a book on it i bet!!!! thanks everyone, maxine

Maxine Report 18 Nov 2008 22:07

when i was pregnant with my son i was constantly ill with chest infections, teeth problems, abscesses on my teeth etc,i got shingles as i was so run down and ive never felt so tired as i did with this pregnancy,i just knew it was differant from my 4 other pregnancies,at my first dating scan they took me and my partner aside and said they wanted to measure the fluid at the back of the neck,i agreed thinking nothing of it,all the nurses went quiet and the doctor said we are sorry to tell you your baby has a 1 in 19 chance of being downs syndrome,no nice warm up just gave it to us straight,i just rememer crying hysterically,my partner bless him didnt know how to help me at that point,we were told we were going to kings college hospital the next day and i was offered a cvs procedure but with a chance of immediate miscarriage,of course we said we would go,but then they said they could offer us a termination that day,i was so angry and heartbroken,we obviously declined and we went to kings the next day to cut it short i had the procedure, very painful and scary but necessary, god was watching us as my baby survivd this procedure and the rest of a bad pregnancy with us terrified of the birth and how our little boy would be like.he didnt have downs, but something i never knew even knew existed
