Thanks for the "chads" info. You learn something new everyday.
I remember now the problem they had last time, and how some voters thought that it may have affected the outcome.

The chads are the little bits of card made by the non-electronic voting system they had in some states last time. If it didn't come away cleanly the vote wasn't counted and that is why a lot of people felt GW didn't win fairly last time.

Deb Vancouver (18665) Report 4 Nov 2008 22:05

An interesting piece in our local newspaper today by an astrologer.

Heavens aligned for new American Revolution

Pluto returns to Capricorn for first time in 250 years
Georgia Nicols, The Province
Published: Tuesday, November 04, 2008
Most people assume an astrological picture for election day in the U.S. is based on the charts of the presidential candidates. This is only partly true.

Astrology is based on the relationships between mathematical cycles. Nothing stands alone.

Therefore, the two biggest determining factors are: (1) What's happening right now in the heavens on Nov. 4, 2008; and (2) How the charts of John McCain and Barack Obama relate to the chart of the United States.

Pluto rules nations, and Capricorn rules governments.

The last time Pluto was in Capricorn was from 1763 to 1778. This was the time of the American Revolution, which culminated in the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The next time that Pluto returns to Capricorn is in November 2008.

Shocked? I was.

On election day, the planet Saturn is in direct opposition to the planet Uranus.

Saturn represents the status quo; Uranus represents revolutionary change at a grassroots level. These two opposing forces meet each other head-on! When we look at the charts of McCain and Obama, we see McCain is a Virgo, with Moon in Aquarius and Pisces Rising. He has Mars in Leo, which many presidents have had before him.

With four planets in Earth, McCain is a practical man who is actually hard to "read" because his Pisces mask can project whatever it is you want to see.

Obama is a Leo, with Moon in Gemini and Aquarius Rising. With his Leo Sun in the Sixth House, he works intensely to excel at whatever he does and gets recognition for it.

Both these guys are successful go-getters.

What will make the difference is which one of their charts has the strongest connection to the chart of the U.S., based on July 4, 1776, 2:24 p.m.

I'll cut to the chase and tell you right off -- it's the chart of Barack Obama, hands down.

In fact, Obama's chart is more closely aligned to the chart of the U.S. than any president for at least 50 years. The connection shows two things: One is a Neptune factor; the other relates to the Moon.

The Neptune factor shows that Obama represents a vision to the American public.

It's as if he is an ideal whose time has come. And the Moon factor shows that he resonates with the mood of the American public, in particular with their popular opinion and their security needs.

If the U.S. can have an honest election, there's no question that Obama will win because his chart shows he most closely personifies what the American public is looking for in a leader.

Furthermore, Pluto returning to Capricorn (after 250 years) heralds the time of a second American Revolution.

I can't wait to see:

I remember a previous black senator of california, who everyone thought they would vote for, but what they said and what they did was something different, he was also a dead cert to get in, and he never did.. hence the empahsis is on not voting on what you may think.. but to go out and actually vote...

I'll keep watch for you Catherine. I'm sure that we will be watching it for the rest of the day.

Palin and McCain were still on the election trail as of midnight Nevada (and my time) last night.

Can you imagine if Sarah Palin does end up as VP, and the real Sarkozy happens to phone?

"you don't get me with that "Du rouge a levres sur une cochonne" stuff again! I know the smell of a rat now"

And on a light note, replying to SueM's post, if she was ever commander in chief, we'd be having a round the world save-the-moose collection.

Interesting times...

Obama would get my vote.

The US television stations are all running election coverage.
If the polls are to believed then Obama should get in.

We will find out in a few a hours when the polls close.

I'm not sure how anyone can pretend to be black - make up perhaps?

Obama's parentage isn't exactly a secret and neither are his credentials as a Christian, so I'm also a bit puzzled about reference to his Muslim brothers.

When I vote, I vote for the person and his or her politics. The religion and/or race of a candidate doesn't enter into my thinking, I would hope most intelligent Americans think the same way.

Just caught up with this thread.

Some people obviously watch Fox news whose claim to be fair and balanced is a pile of cr*p.

I won't point to individual newsmen but they are obviously biased and they make their views plain by what they choose to broadcast.

Just interested Cristine where the Muslim brothers come into this discussion. Methinks you have been paying too much attention to the McCain spin. This is one of the great scare tactics used by the opposition to try and discredit him.

It's telling when the McCain advisors choose to drag remarks like this into the politcal arena, it smacks of desperation.

I hope Obama wins and wins convincingly. The thought of Sarah Palin as VP sends fear through my soul. McCain drops dead or is hospitalised and she becomes Commander in Chief god help the world.

Especially if she feels she or a member of her family has been slighted by any Military Commander, they are going to find their butt well and truly kicked. This will be regardless of their competancy to run their particular theatre of operation.

Doesn't matter who the Americans choose as their next leader, they all seem to be as stupid as the previous one. eh Clinton, Bush Jnr, Bush Snr, Regan etc should I go on?

Did anyone hear Arnie Shwatz's (not even gonna attempt that name) comments about Obama, saying he has skinny little arms and needs to be shown how to do some moves to beef him up and put some meat on him-

Can you imagine Gordon Brown saying that about David Cameron we'd be like WHAT? lol
