I seem to be reading a lot about that kind of racism. Question is, will it really make a difference to the way people like that would vote? My guess is they'd probably were going to vote Republican anyway. What might make a difference is if these racists types make more of an effort to vote than they normally would. The percentage of people who usually vote in the US is a lot lower than in other countries.

I added to a thread in September. I have c&p'd it.

I am floored of what the man said.

"In July I was talking to an elderly American man in Vegas.
What came out of his mouth during the brief conversation with him floored me.

He sat next to me (we were at the Paris hotel) while waiting for his wife. I don't know what led into the conversation but I asked "so who are you voting for, as we get a lot of coverage in Canada on you election and I'm kind of following it"
He turned to me and said (in a southern accent)
"Well we are voting to put a man in the WHITE House".

Before I fell of my stool I replied with "Well if it was me I would be voting for Obama"
He left after that.

I'm still in shock over that comment"

Thank you for explaining Rose. I thought these were the final results and not predictions. Would explain what's being said on BBC news channel.

Only 5% of the votes have been counted so far but McCain is projected to win.

I am watching votes come in on cnn.com, and don't understand this..........
South Carolina is red (McCain) on the map, but when you hover over the state these are the results.
Obama 14,830 55%
McCaine 11,912 44% (with a little tick)

So how come McCain was awarded a win when the results are as above?

I have to break off watching the election at 7pm for Coronation Street though.
I have my priorities ;)

I'm guessing about 9 or 10pm here.
5 or 6am in the UK.

The results are coming in now from the eastern states that are 3 hours ahead.

Not long to wait now for the first announcements.

I've decided to try and stay up and watch the results come in. Which means that I'm already yawning ages before tiredness usually does its stuff......

Anyway, having consulted Wikipedia on the subject of "staying up all night - aids to" I find that opening a bottle of wine is apparently the Thing To Do.

Always one to learn from the experience of those wiser than myself, I've taken Wiki's advice. It goes against the grain (or indeed, the vine) but then, who am I .........
