Its probably already been said.(haven't read the whole thread)..Those that work hard, struggle to provide for their families and lead an upright, honest and moralistic lifestyle will always be over-looked financialy in favour of those charachters that lead their lives differently. Is it any wonder that people are so cynicle.

PolperroPrincess Report 8 Oct 2008 15:12

Hi Ann....it does make you mad!

Hi Bella.....I agree it's no wonder some people dont see the point in working hard cos no matter how hard you work it will always seem like an uphill fight!!

i wounder how those people that are on benefits would cope if they were told no more hand outs if you dont work you dont get any money

Kate

Kate Report 8 Oct 2008 15:25

How on earth can they justify it? I mean, think of all the people on the minimum wage, earning about £5 an hour, working 37+ hours a week in supermarkets etc. (When I was at college, working part-time in a supermarket, if I had been there full-time I would still have only earnt about £6,000 a year.) They must be really struggling to survive, so how someone can get that amount of money in benefits is just mind-boggling.

And so many people at the moment will be going without to try to save money (I've cut back on loads of non-essentials, as I'm sure many others have). But that amount of money would probably employ about 9 teachers for a year!

and what about the health service i think that needs a bit of money put into it

PolperroPrincess

PolperroPrincess Report 8 Oct 2008 15:40

I work 37hrs in a dementia unit of a nursing home and we get paid the minimum wage of £5.72 an hour.....yep it is a struggle! Luckily as my son is at college I get Tax Credits but dont know how I will manage when he leaves!

Ann

Ann Report 8 Oct 2008 15:42

SallyF

SallyF Report 8 Oct 2008 15:43

Bev
*whispers* minimum wage is now £5.73. They're diddling you out of an penny an hour!

Anyway, it sounds as if this lady is wondering why they are paying this much for her rent from the OP.

I remember when my dad retired from work because he had a personal pension he wasnt entitled to any money from the government....fair enough!! Then 3yrs after he had retired he had alot of trouble with walking as he had diabetes and problems with his feet so he applied for help to get a blue badge or towards his car...cant remember the name of the benefit BUT was told because he was over 65yrs old he wasnt entitled to any help!!

Does that mean people of a certain age are not supposed to leave the house??

I think Bev the Government would be happy of they just scuttled off somewhere to die so they didn't have to give them any consideration!

Ann

Ann Report 8 Oct 2008 15:50

obvicouly after 65 you are of no use!!!!??

PolperroPrincess

PolperroPrincess Report 8 Oct 2008 15:50

Hi Sally...I knew I was out of pocket..lol!!

I dont blame the woman who is living in this house, Im sure we all would if we were given it!! It just seems a little obscene for the government to be paying this in light of the current "credit crunch"

It is obscene Bev. Especially when there are people who will be scared to turn on their heating this Winter because of the cost.
