My Nan taught me around the same age as you I think - she was right handed I am left, so therefore I knit right-handed! |

I find I have to keep knitting because I get pains in my thumbs if I don't. Good excuse to keep buying wool and store it under the bed!!! I would love to crochet garments as I believe they grow quicker than knitting. |

I am sure if I look behind the armchairs and settee I will find some abandoned knitting from several years ago (No I don't go behind there often and usually just shove things back after cleaning!!) |

My Mum and my eldest sister 'collect' second-hand dolls in good condition, clean them up and knit new outfits for them. Mum then sells them in a charity shop - some of them are really beautiful and a fraction of the price of a new one. |

Talking of cable, can any of you remember the Aran pattern books? I have, stored away, a deep red cable dress from one of those books. Took me about three months to do, but it was worth the effort, It was double knit crepe. I cant fit into the bottom half of it now, but I just have to keep it!. In front of my dressing table I have a large slip mat which my son designed when he was 15, and I used unpicked jumpers with the wool doubled, to crossstitch it, That must beover forty years ago! Used to crochet too, but you have to concentrate on that. Cant figure a way to do either knit or crochet at the same time as use the computer, unfortunately! |

Hello all - for those that are interested, I have just picked up this months (NOV) issue of Simply Knitting. In the main part, apart from various garments to make their are patterns for a Santa Claus, decorations for the tree, and a gift stocking suitable for the end of a bed or mantle piece. In the supplement, there are patterns for socks using two and four needles, and a crochet pair of slippers. |
