been dying mine for years. Now aged 40 and have to do roots every three weeks. Very dark hair so look like a scunk if roots aren't done.

I'm *whispers* nearly 59 and have had my mousy blonde hair highlighted for years but when I lost it all to chemotherapy last year the damn stuff came back as grey as dust! And curly.

Hotfooted it to the hairdresser as soon as decently possible and had an ammonia-free colour put on it - gives the impression of blonde highlights. Have since had the curls cropped off, so I am sporting a short pixie style at the moment. Posh Spice copied me!

Grey....NO WAY!

Glad you asked who colours their hair. If you had asked who DOESN'T colour their hair this thread would be on page 10 by and you would be thinking everyone is ignoring you LOL

I started colouring mine to hide the grey about 3 years ago, but used to occassionally use Harmony when I was younger. Last did it about 4 weeks ago when I used one of those multi tonal ones for the first time. Youngest did the highlights, but we used a dying cap instead of the brush and it turned out very well.
(I'm 48 and 51 weeks)

Oh yes, SS - the 'badger brows' - I have those too!
I have considered the brow colouring you can get for men!! I've never plucked my eyebrows, just tidied them up so they're quite full (though nothing like Denis Healey!! LOL)

I had jet black when I was young, and saw my first white hair at 18. With each child, my skin colouring got paler and more white hairs appeared. By the time I was in my thirties I started colouring my hair, in various shades of mahogany and burgundy, not only to cover the grey - but because I could!! It's impossible to colour black hair unless you 'strip ' it first and that was too much trouble.
I did go back to grey a few years ago - just to see how grey I was - but it looked so dirty and drab I went back to dyeing it.
As for the time - an hour every 6 weeks - and my hair is always in much better condition after dyeing than before!

Yes I do, but stick to my natural colour as far as possible. Luckily my eyebrows are still dark brown, so I stick to that shade - don't want to end up looking like Alastair Darling, lol!!

*puts hand up*

Got my first few strands of grey at 18 and because I'm naturally very dark brown, I felt that they were obvious and didn't want to be grey that soon. I've been covering up ever since and when my roots start showing through, they're almost completely grey. No offence to those who are happy to let the grey show through, but I don't want that while I'm still in my early 40s!

Been colouring my hair, to cover the grey since I was about 40 Try to stick to my natural colour, but not sure what my natural colour is these days....lol...
Do mine about every 6-8 weeks, which is a bit of a pain, but I will not go grey!!

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 15 Sep 2008 18:00

I have been colouring my hair for years, all shades you could put on dark brown/auburn hair, and used henna too at one time, before that I used those harmony sachets. Around 13 yrs ago I was still using brown dye to cover the grey, we show it early in our family, but the sun would make the brown turn blonde anyway so started to use blonde dye and have continued. Use a beige blonde from Nice n Easy, comes out strawberry blonde for the first two washes then fades to a blonde I can live with. I have a lot of natural red pigment in my hair hence the strawberry part.

Bit of a bind doing it but don't want to be all over grey just yet.
