I have always loved to read, and will have a go at most authors, altho prefer historical novels, and any novels to do with war time family tales, triumph over adversity type stuff is always heartwarming, also don't mind the odd chick lit and also autobiographies.
Just started a new book yesterday, set in Chile, and moving to Cornwall. I always love anything set in Cornwall, Malta or Norfolk, or anywhere I have spent any time so that I can picture the places as they are mentioned.
Favourite authors, too numerous to mention.
Get most of my books from Charity shops or the charity bookshelf in our local supermarket, most of the books I take back there to be resold (cost is 25 p in charity box but I usually put in more). My son found some of his favourites when we were there yesterday, I am so glad the love of books I encouraged when small, is still with him.
You are never alone with a book.

I love reading, always have - read late at night or on holiday
Books have to capture me in the first few pages, not very tolerant if a book doesn't 'grab' me!

Not always fiction, but over the last few years have read most of the books by

Rosamund Pilchar......... delightful and warm
Daphne du Maurier ......... totally immersing
E.V. Thompson ....... Cornwall series, which evolve to South Africa or Australia - fascinating
Bill Bryson........ all of them, have read Notes from A Small Island 3 times and still laugh out loud! Brilliant

also
Tracy Chevalier
Philippa Gregory

and some time ago
Norah Lofts - her Town House series is fascinating

Jean Plaidy - not so keen now.

and I actually think Jeffrey Archer writes quite a good yarn! LOL

Muffy, she's (Dorothy koomson) kind of Chick lit, but not fluffy, there's a serious note too. One of her books, my best friends girl, was in last years Richard and Judy list.

I agree about Barbara Erskine. I read the Lady of Hay when it came out and have read most since. At the library where I work we have a historical book display at the mo and the Erskine books are flying out.
