I think they are trying to get something done about that because "Some, Not All" are a Bl--dy menace to other people.**M**.

my Mum had a mobility scooter - she had no lessons other than a demonstration - I presume you are alluding to some of these "elderly boy racers" and females who plough through everything and everyone as if they have a God given right so to do!!

I do agree, although I think cycling should be encouraged, a test, and insurance make sense.
Just a thought, but do you have to be insured to drive one of those mobilty scooters?
or take any sort of driving test, or even instruction.?

In my humble opinion the answer is yes for the following reasons:

1. Cyclists use the roads and therefore should pay for using them, obviously not as much as us drivers but a small amount say £10 per year.

2. Cyclists should have to pay insurance because, imagine the following scenario:

You are driving along following the rules of the road and driving perfectly legally when you stop at a red traffic light and a cyclist rides past you accross the junction into the side of a vehicle that is quite legally driven through a green light damaging that vehicle which results in a considerable cost to the driver of said vehicle. Who should pay up.................The cyclist of course but with no insurance etc who will chase him/her up for the costs...............No one.
The poor driver will then have to contact his Insurance to make a claim which will probably end up with the driver loosing all or part of his no claims discount.

Another thing that annoys me about cyclists is that when riding along roads they tend to do so 2 or three abreast and they have no thought for the motorist who has paid to be on the road.

Eldrick the font of all knowledge may know the answers to this.

No I am not anti-cyclist as I have a bike and use it to get to and from work on a daily basis, and would if I had to pay for road tax and Insurance.

What do you think?

I agree Anne, teenagers are the worst for no lights and they wear dark clothing.

Hi Pablo, maybe not a road tax but perhaps there should be some kind of insurance. I ride my horse on the road and i have liability and accident insurance but insurance isnt compulsory

been thinking about it - yes, they should pay something - after all there are now cycle lanes and cycle paths everywhere and as for insurance, a cyclist colliding with a person or a car can cause quite a lot of damage, so yes for insurance too.

So insurance, road tax and lights for me please!

a registration plate is being considered by the powers that be,but insurance while riding on the road and pavements would be an idea so that people knocked over by a cyclist would be able to claim if injured.

Yes,and have number plates, and all should be sold with lights, proper ones not the silly little flashing ones which are sometimes fitted.**M**.

what they should have above anything else is lights - back and front - and a heavy fine if they don't have them while out at night!!!
