This is the opposite....when we met up with a long lost family, they said that they didn't quite believe Aunts story saying her grandfather was a captain, they'd only found him listed as a sailor. We actually had his daughter's marriage certificate listing him as a boat captain.

There's sometimes a grain of truth in it.

Picked up one on TTF, G G G Grandad was a "famous" chocolate manufacturer.

The lady deleted the thread without an acknowledgement when I found he was a former miner working in a shop!

Lie or tale one...

1) My GGrandmother was devote catholic.....married 3 times and buried 3 husbands after the 3rd....she devoted her life to god and went to live with nuns till she died.........ermmm no she didn't.....she lived as Mrs with her second husband for over 12 years before she sneaked off to marry him when her first husband died....but the devote thing was true coz she waited till he died....


2) My Grandfather lied about his age so he could join the army......ermm no he didn't he lied about his age on his wedding lines..so he could marry....


3) The family name is decended from red indians as we where .....ermmmm no we wasn't we was decended from generations of Hatter's from manchester........

How many of us have believed a story past on to us by our older generation ?


I have found this at least 3 times.....so was my reallie a story teller or compulsive lyer ?
