No ................ we are departing from your question.

Being opinionated is very distinct from having, and being entitled to, an opinion.

Perhaps, for the benefit of those like me who are way past their bedtime, you might like to clarify the theme of your thread Muffy :)

I have an irritating neighbour who knows the cat's a..e about everything under the sun - whatever you are doing or going to do he has to chip in and tell you the right way to do it!!! people cross the road to avoid him, workmen dread having to go there - even council workmen doing jobs in the road say come close to burying him in holes cos he just stands there and watches, putting in his five pennorth at every opportunity!!

I know what you mean Lyndi.......I guess what it boils down to is whether or not you feel you are being spoken TO or AT.xx

This country is governed by opinion - that's my opinion & I'm wrong sometimes!

I agree with the fact that the manner in which an opinion is expressed that can a difference to how it is perceived by someone else, but sometimes when it is just the written word, a view can come across in a manner not intended and cause hurt/upset to others.
I think that is what causes some of the conflict on chat forums (and not just this one)

I've maybe not replied if I didn't feel strongly enough or interested enough to.......but that doesn't mean I didn't think they had the right to say it in the first place xx

I hear what you say Muffy, but let me ask you this ....

Have you ever read a post on this board and considered it unworthy of a second's thought ?

I find the opinions of others actually quite fascinating Sue........ I think you've made a really valid point........cos as soon as it comes across like a crusade or a lecture......my mind just goes *bing* and I switch off ..........I'm always open to changing my mind .......but it's the manner in which it's delivered which makes the difference. I see exactly where you are coming from there xx

TW you're right

One definition of opinionated (internet definition) is:

Holding stubbornly and often unreasonably to one's own opinions.

Ain't there a subtle difference between having an opinion and being opinionated?

I have an opinion....

I have an opinion and I am gonna ram it down your throat......

lol (now which one am I?)

Everyones opinion is worth of consideration, but when an opinion turns out to be wrong and has caused hurt and upset, surely then it is worth an apology.

To me an opinionated person is more aggressive than one who merely voices an opinion on something. The latter will always apologise for being in the wrong, whereas the former will never stand down, even when proved utterly wrong.

There is nothing at all wrong in having a point of view and putting it across.
