In the garden----.a female Sparrowhawk

She is a fine looking specimen and having her dinner!

However noticing the black feathers all around her I'm not happy:O(......... hope it's not my favourite Blackbird who comes every morning to kitchen door for his fruit!!

but circle of life and all that,we all have to eat to stay alive

Oh no, that sounds ominous Mau, I too hope it isn't your special blackbird. We have one too, and I get worried for him, two of the neighbours cats come into the garden, altho mainly under cover of darkness luckily, I always know when they are about as the security lights go on.
Spotted a magpie on the garage roof a little while ago. We have a robin that visits and also had blue tits around the bird box for ages last week, but they haven't been back since.
Keep us posted, whether you see your blackbird again.

There's usually two Blackbirds Liz, both friendly but only one who is (shall i say) semi-tame?

There was also at the time of 'dinner' a huge Magpie (beautiful , but what a racket!!) sitting on the fence,but of course wasn't brave enough to fly down onto lawn.

Birds in garden have three neighbours' cats to be wary of,but Sparrowhawk? no contest unfortunately.

Will let you know if Fruity comes to call again,hope so.

One of our neighbours Mau has an aviary in his garden, and whilst having Sunday dinner I noticed this bird, just hanging in the air, hovering over the neighbour's garden in the stiff breeze......

.....well all the family stopped eating and told me it was a Red Kite......well, I don't know anything much about birds......my Mum and Dad seemed to know them all.......and it could have been interested in the aviary birds.......it would be a shame if harm came to them, because they have some interesting calls....

Oh I hope fruity is safe and sound and visiting soon!

I too think Magpies are beautiful but you are right they make such a noise!! ;o)

Don't worry about the kites - they are scavengers and feed primarily on carrion. They won't attack songbirds.

They don't hover as a kestel does, though. Easily recognised because of their large size and distinctive forked tail.

Magpies will steal eggs and young chicks from nests.

Red Kites are fantastic looking birds Sally rare and mostly nest in Wales but lots seen now here and in Scotland.

Also Seagulls Ian.........saw one last year flying low over garden with young chick in it's beak,I felt sick,

...always thought Gulls they preferred ice cream or Cornish pasties!

I know you don't want to hear this Mau but I would love to have a Sparrowhawk visit my garden...mind you I wouldn't know what it was
being London born and bred I don't see many birds of prey.

I do hope your blackbird is safe and well. I do have a robin that nests in the tangle at the bottom of the garden:)

Yes the Hawks are fabulous to look at Jean.
My Son lives in Walthamstow and all he seems to get in his garden are flocks of Magpies and the occasional Robin.
He does however have a Fox who comes to call,now I would love to see him, but when I was there last week he didn't visit :O(

Blackbirds can be very aggressive Maz,have to be with all the cats around!

Red Kites can also be seen near Tring I believe.
