Blue Eyes your so right, I find the new and the newspapers depressing, however, you see so many threads on here about the wonderful 'small little things' members do for each other, that I remember the World really is a Wonderful place, these things don't make the headlines, but mean the World to the people concerned.

i am in bits I so wish that things like this happened more .As a mum with special needs children you don't see things like that to often.see thread Autisum and ADHD.

A thing that happened a bit nearer home for me, was that neighbours of mine had a Down's Syndrome baby. When that baby grew and was about to start school, Social Services said that they would put him in a boarding school. They wre horrified at the thought of loosing their son and said, “No!” Social Services tried to persuade them that the boy would be with people who knew how to look after him and that would take the strain off the family. However, the family were adamant. Their son was staying at home!

Now, some years later, after their son went through the local Primary and High School, this boy takes the bus to work every day, he skis, he goes abroad on holidays and he is a lovely man, polite and thoughtful. I came home with him in the bus, the other day. He had a bunch of red roses for his mother.

Everyone in town know him and looks out for him. All the bus drivers know him, too, as do all the shoppers in the store where he works.

What like would he have if he had been put in a Special School? Down's Syndrome children are well known for mimicry. They copy what they see. They copy each other.

But this boy has learned to copy from adults and have a good and fulfilling life.

A lovely story - I, too, am a hairy-a***d seaman - and feel the same way as Colin...

But the question must be asked - is this story one of extraordinary actions by ordinary people, or are there many other similar stories that are not reported? It does seem that the media is more obsessed with reporting what is wrong than what is right.

Perhaps we should all look a bit harder for the good that is out there.

I often read stories and messages on here, but I can honestly say that this is the first time one has made me cry. We only ever here about the bad things that go on around us, this story brings home the goodness that is there if we look.

I'm going to get my teenage boys to read it later. Thanks for posting it Brenda.

I might make some typing etrrors in this as my eyes are a bit blurry - this story always make me sniffle too.
I everyone could take the same attitutude as thos lads, the world would be a better place.

Seeing the Mum and sister of James Simpson? on tv today, the chap murdered at the weekend in the Matalan store by three yobs, broke my heart . A loving caring son killed for money which they then didn't take, what a waste and what a contrast to the lads in this story.
