Actually there is racist people in both sides of the country not just in Scotland and I have been verbally abused by English people now I am living down here in Devon but you can't just blame one side as I am Scottish but my mum is English and she has been in Scotland for over 60yrs and has been treated with up most respect from them

maggiewinchester Report 15 Mar 2008 11:21

The blame is with the system. If all the MP's from the Welsh and Scottish Assemblies vote for/against something they can easliy outvote the English MP's.
Why is it so one-sided. If they can vote in the English Parliament, why can't the English MP's vote in theirs?
It seems that everyone else in the UK has independence, apart from the English - who have to be British!!

I would like to say, I don't regard the aggressive plonker as a prime example of the Scots!! He was just a loud mouthed ignorant pillock - and they (unfortunately) exist in every race!!

Deanna Report 15 Mar 2008 11:08

Marion I did not mean to upset the Scots people.

And I understood that university education is free.
It has been spoken about on TV.
Sorry if I have upset anyone, I am not aggressive and did not mean to.

Plus, too early in the day for me to argue with anyone.... ;-0)

Isn't the point that the Scottish and the Welsh have both opted out to whatever level of the British government and the English haven't? We can hardly moan cos the Scottish and Welsh have more oomph than we have!

Deanna, that's a bit unfair on the Scottish:)

Obviously they did not have anything interesting to talk about, if they were busy listening in on other folks chatter......some people just spoil for arguements.....

Maggie

Its a shame when adults cant have a debate without someone butting in and getting shirty.

Deanna yes the Welsh do have their own parliment and to certain extent are able to make changes such as free prescriptions, you are also right that the money is given to the Welsh assembly from the English parliment but all the Welsh revenue goes into the same pot so although it seems like we are recieving money from the English government we are just getting a share of what we put into the coutry as a whole.

I can understand people living in England being annoyed about those in Scotland and Wales getting more benefits but surely the blame cannot be pointed at the Welsh and Scottish governments but the those in Westminster who are not doing the same for England.

I'm English and extremely proud of it - but understand that the Scots are also proud of their nationality, if they would only take those Scot born bufoons Blair and Brown back I would be in debt to them forever...and yes all nationalities are capable of aggression

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 15 Mar 2008 10:55

We dont get free presciptions, I think it's about £6/7.
We get free dental checks and eye sight I think too.

Deanna, not only Scots can be aggressive that's not fair :(( Engish can be too.

People who eavesdrop, never hear good of themselves. Obviously they were not having an interesting conversation or they would not have butted into your daughters. Thought we had freedom of speech in this country. By the way im half scot.

Deanna you can't get free prescriptions in Scotland but I think they are cheaper then they are here.

However, I do agree that the man was out of order.

Tallulah

Tallulah Report 15 Mar 2008 10:42

prescriptions are not free, not yet anyway, and I'm sure people still pay for their university courses, not trying to cause trouble just stating facts.

Deanna

Deanna Report 15 Mar 2008 10:39

Well Maggie you do not surprise me.
The Scots can be quite aggressive.... not to say 'frightening'.

Your daughter and her mates are quite right.
What gets me is the fact that they have things which we don't have, like free university (which they should have) and extras such as Prescriptions which I believe are free, as they are in Wales.
BUT ..... the money has to be coming from Parliament IN ENGLAND.

And before anyone starts on me, My dad was Scots and my whole paternal family.
But in my opinion, if you want your own parliament... look after your own people.

AND your daughter should have been able to discuss anything without interference from anyone in the room.
