Joy I had pleurisy a few years ago - what an awful illness it took me so long to recover. I found a towel held tight to the ribs helped me so know what you mean and a hot water bottle on the back as often as possible to aid sleep.

Ann you wrap it right round. I had an op in Oct not there bit an equally akward part and showered by using those menoline plaster type things then wraped cling film right round my body.

After shower used those antispectic wipe things then put on a fresh dressing.

Ann you have to stretch it really tight

and it seals against your skin

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 4 Mar 2008 21:21

Joy, how did you seal it against the water running down inside.

Maddie, i didn't know you could still get dry shampoo, that is an idea.

Ann, most hairdressers now have an option of basins, so could you possible manage to lean back and have it washed, bless, I wish I could come and do it for you, although if I had to style it, Goodness help you, that is my treat of the week, getting my hair washed and dried, only £8 so I think I work hard enough to deserve it, hopefully you could manage a lay back washXX hope you find a solutionXX

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 4 Mar 2008 21:20

the cling film really works

but you have to have it tight

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 4 Mar 2008 21:20

Debbs, i think it might pull too much on the stitches when I came to stand up, I have a problem normally as I have a bad back.

Ros, yes that would be the simple way wouldn't it? The first dressing I had the hospital put waterproof over the ordinary one, not sure if I have seen the waterproof ones at the chemist and not really up to shopping yet.

Bin bag was what we came up with. Nurse at surgery suggested cling film but how do you seal it over the dressing?

Oh well something to keep me thinking I suppose.

Maddiecow Report 4 Mar 2008 21:17

Ann why not try dry shampoo? You can get them in boots and brush them through your hair.
