No there is no shame in it at all, it think most of us have had a brush with it at some points in our lives some are just more severe than others.

Im trying to find the details of why my one was put in an asylum not sure how I would go about it though. He was a foreman in the dockyard in Pembroke Dock and was placed in St Peters in Carmarthen.

So do we take it that Laptop is not an idiot( for want of better words)
I hope so, cos I have had seen him putting his point across apart from very elequently(sp)

I am an epileptic - they would have had me in there for sure! LOL (at my self). Nowadays we are treated more kindly and are not cursed etc. (and Im left handed as well - no hope for me there then)! lol

quite right and as I said Asylum conjures up bad pictures in one's mind but when you really think about it, it shouldn't. Asylum - a nice safe caring place

Ann, we all fall of the rails at sometimes in our lives, nothing to be ashamed of,but in the "olden days" the hospitals were called asylems.

Ive suffered with it myself in the past hun, its just me seeing the funny side of my own brush with it :o)

I know hun - no offence meant, I just tend to get very protective of mental illness sufferers having worked in a psychiatric hospital for twenty-eight years!!

wouldn't worry about it - I myself had a stay on a psychiatric ward about eleven years ago and don't mind anyone knowing it or I wouldn't say so on here. As has been said years ago people were put in asylums for trivial reasons and the word asylum actually is a very nice word - a safe haven. Please don't fall into the trap of calling people who have had psychiatric problems loonies - ain't nice.

I would not worry much, they were always carting off folk to mental hospitals back then, these days you would probably be on pills and living a "normal" life!
