Have any of you ever been to South Devon?

The finished exterior of this one tonight reminds me of Trago Mills ....pmsl!

£150,000 over budget eeeeek!!

OH watches it sometimes but I can't stand it! The people never take any (often good) advice and think they know best, go way over budget, and pfaff about with silly nit-picking things instead of concentrating on important things like heating! And then paint it all some ghastly colour.

Where does Kevin McThingy live then, Mandy - I trust he has some swanky pad somewhere desirable, lol!

I was just going to say the same Tuna. It's a bit like when people have had double glazing put into an old house and they don't have the frames made chunky enough cos they don't want to pay the price.

Mandy....I would never keep fish so when I see someone put a tank in the house it kinda puts me off! lol. I do remember it was quite swanky though wasn't it?

Oh well, that's another one completed...

Sorry Jeanette and Tina, I got caught up with the footy match......when it finished I popped over to Grand Designs to see the finished result, complete with gruesome gargoyles......they would give me the heebie jeebies.....and £400 a go......they would have to pay me to have them....lol....

I look forward to watching GD tomorrow - I taped it....

....and yes, I think you would need roller skates to go from one end of the kitchen to the other....

can't watch it this week still got the aerial down...But...last week when they spent a grand on a tap!! I think they were barmy...too much money, that's what they have. Didn't like that glass...they're kids after all.. very strange how clinical the place looked.

It always amazes me how hardly any of the houses on Grand Designs have curtains.
Do people really like living in goldfish bowls?

Curtains also help save on fuel bills by keeping heat in and make a home feel cosy on a cold dark night I think.

I caught the end of it and thought it was interesting, but not my taste.
I loved the changeable glass in the sugar cube house last week, but thought the house a bit cold and clinical. There have been some wonderful houses built tho, I have always loved housing design and architecture, since I was a little girl. I think it might have been because I was brought up in a council house, a brand new boxy one, no interesting features, nooks or crannies - so boring.
I watched another programme on Channel 5 last week about a chap making a water tower into a home, it was amazing but he was a bit haphazard about the build and his family weren't that supportive altho glad enough to move there when all the hard work had been done. It was in my neck of the woods, East Anglia, so I will be looking out for it on my travels lol
Would be wonderful to have lots of loot to do up a house exactly the way you want, money no object!

Mick....intersting to see that you watch and enjoy the programme downunder. Do you have an Aussie equivalent of the show?

Liz...I love architecture too but if I had enough money to build a house I would be torn between building a modern looking one or something with a more period look

Well I watched the tape of it and I did like the finished result (apart from the gurning gnomes)......I really liked the octagonal shape made with real oak for the seating area in the kitchen......can't say I remember the kitchen though....I liked the staircase without gargoyles, but not the price.......I liked the back, it was a bit of a mismatch with the leaded ordinary windows and the plain arched ones......but it looked OK....

I loved that penthouse flat with the fishtank you could look through into the living room and then out into the sea.....but I would not fancy the upkeep......I used to keep tropicals and they do need attention......and marine tropicals are even worse, and expensive.....

I also saw the one where they were rebuilding the thatched cottage and the cottage was almost gutted apart from the kitchen, if I remember, and that was wonderful......the planning department were a bit sniffy about the type of reed used for thatching, but came round when they found out it was from a nearby source.....

The only one I didn't like was when they did up an old wreck of a boat with odds and ends they found.....they did not have a mooring from it and it went from bad to worse......and the mooring they did have in the end, they had to move it again.....
