Oh I hate the stuff, I was brought up with an aversion to it though that my mum instilled in us.

It can cause stomach ulcers because the mind thinks there is food and causes the stomach to ready itself with the production of acid.

Horrible stuff.

Please don't ban it!

I need my chewing gum, I use it to keep my mouth from drying out. I also drink water, but the gum is so helpful.
I would NEVER throw it out in the street (rarely use it in the street), but even at home I warp it in paper before putting it in my bin....... I'm a good girl me, don't ban my chewy please??

How would you enforce payment though if you asked gum manufacturers to pay?

Do KFC and Mcdonalds pay to clear their litter?

I have always thought that Chewing Gum manufacturers should be forced to make it biodegradeable and in the meantime should be the ones to pay for clearing it up.

It looks terrible all over the pavements of my local town too.

Chewing gum is banned in Singapore under the "Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations." Except for chewing gum of therapeutic value, the "importing" of chewing gum into Singapore is absolutely banned.

A common misconception among citizens is that personal use quantities of chewing gum are allowed into Singapore. However, according to the set of Regulations, "importing" means to "bring or cause to be brought into Singapore by land, water or air from any place which is outside Singapore ..." any goods, even if they are not for purposes of trade. The set of Regulations also does not make any provisions for personal use quantities to be brought into Singapore. Therefore, bringing chewing gum into Singapore, even small quantities for whatever purpose, is technically prohibited.[1]

Maidstone Council have attached boards all over town to lamp posts for people to stick their used gum on to .............

personally I find that just as repulsive - I don't want to see what others have had their mouth ewwwwwwww

Not sure what the answer is tho .......

Madstone Kent have boards where people can stick their used gum.
Hung up on lamposts or similar, I thought they looked horrible but I guess that's one idea.

No idea if it works out cost effective or whether it's helped much with the pavement gum.

Disgusting stuff!! And very slippery in the rain.
If cigarette smokers can be fined for dropping a butt, which can easily be swept up - chewing gum spitters should be fined too - twice the amount as it costs a fortune to remove!!
Not only is it slippery in the rain, it's gross when it gets hot & sticky or is 'freshly spat' and gets on your shoes, ruins clothes and, with the increase in TB it has to be a health hazard - probably worse than smoking!!
