Can anyone comment on the following: Ancestry(.)com pricing for "UK and Ireland collection is: Monthly $12.95, Annual $99.95. Ancestry(.)co(.)uk pricing for subscription is: Quarterly £29.95 or Annually £69.95. Is it a different service or are they using a novel exchange rate???????

Yes - but if you could get all the info you need for the moment for a minimum of $12.95 (= £7.10) (1 month) instead of £29.95 (1 quarter) , the deal is a lot more attractive Stateside!

Do the UK figures include VAT? Watch out for that too. Crista

Hi The uk prices for the ancestry subscription do not include VAT, and also have been reading on these boards that someone was caught out by ancestry with this new monthly subscription thing. Aparently it is not a monthly subscription you are infact agreeing to take out a yearly subscription but pay for it in monthly installments, therefore if you try to cancel within that year you are still liable for the payments or they charge you a cancellation fee. I think there is some small print somewhere on the ancestry website regarding this. Regards Sharon

And as I believe there is no such thing as VAT in the US, they only pay $99 (£55 ish) compared to your £82 in the UK for what I think is the same thing? Even if I've got the VAT thing wrong, I still don't understand why the UK published price of £69 pa is £14 more than for the US?

I assume that the reference to tax is VAT rather than any US tax since it is 17.5%. I am pretty sure that they are supposed to charge VAT if you are a UK customer even though Ancestry are US based. It is probably deemed a supply in the UK. The British government are keen to make sure that they do not lose out in taxes (as are all governments) from inter country trading on the internet. The website probably doesn't know that it has to charge VAT until you enter your home address/country. I am therefore okay with them charging VAT, however I think that the way that they are presenting it is very misleading and probably does not comply with British VAT law. Has anyone actually seen a refernce to VAT rather than taxes? Has anyone seen their VAT number? Marcelo

My £29.95 3 mth subscription actually cost £35.19 bit naughty i think, but i did find out loads of stuff in my 3 mths. Julie T
