It does not matter what I do, or what programme I use, I am being hammered by spam again, and I have had enough. When I get virus and hi-jack attempts using my own addresses, note I say addresses,SENT TO ME that is the end of my patience. No matter what reports are put in, I do not see, or receive any results. It is beyond belief that I have had to delete in excess of FOUR HUNDRED spurious e-mails over the past 10 days. Scans, etc, are making no difference to what I receive, and it has come to the point that I have a problem identifying what is real. So if any of you have sent me a message through this site, or other sites, and I have not replied I apologise most profusely. If any one wishes to communicate with me, then PLEASE make sure that I can identify you and your subject. I am sorry to have to do this, but it has gone so far as to my considering deleting all details including the tree from the site, which I do not want to do, as I have had so much help from you on this site. I have also enjoyed trying to help others, old and new, with their searches and hope that I have been able to point at least one person in the right direction. Goodnight friends, and regretfully it seems as though this is goodbye:-(((( Paul |

Paul, Just Googled your name and I came up with your email addy! No wonder you're getting spammed! You need to come up with something more complex than "yourname AT domainname(.)com" and make sure your address doesn't appear on any websites. Crista |

Agree with you wholeheartedly Max. I am sure there are a lot of people who feel the same about this obnoxious character. Kathleen |

We also have a number in our email addresses (son's, too) and we very rarely receive spam. Hope things work out for you, Paul. I also would hate to see you leave. :~( |

Hi Di, Sounds like you are getting viruses and there isn't much you can do to stop receiving those. These are coming from someone you know who is infected and who has your address. Crista |

There seems to be a tendency to automatically blame spam on subscribing to genealogy sites. I only receive a little spam, despite using genealogy sites every day. My son, who has never visited a genealogy site, gets sheaves on his e-mail address on the same computer. See Judy's thread about how spammers get your address. |

Oh No Paul you can't go , you can't let the SPAMMERS beat you. Besides your wealth of knowledge on Northern Ireland ( and Eire ) are invaluable to many here. I've learnt alot from reading your replies to others. Much happiness Debi ( the only other Northern Irelander on here NOW lol) |

Paul, I doubt very much if your increase in spam is anything to do with this site - I've been on here several months and have seen no increase at all. I get some now and then, the same as everyone else (it's an unfortunate fact of life on the internet), but they're normally pretty easily identified. Take a chill pill pal ! Paul |

I agree with Paul, Paul.(!). I have been on this site sometime and also on TribalPages where my email address is on public display. Change your address as a start. Gary wish we had a button to send you to the trashcan. Bob |

I got a burst of spam after I renewed my subscription online, perhaps it isn't this site but the people who handle the payments? |

Hi Paul, I personally would be very sorry to see you go - you help such a lot of people and give good advice. I have a hot**mail account which does contain my name, but also two numbers and a letter which separates my first and last names. To date, (touch wood) no spam! Disregard your old e-mail account - it will probably get cancelled if it's inactive for a while (I know that hot**mail does this) and try the above. I hope it works for you - good luck Best wishes Karen |

Thank you all for your support and suggestions. I will admit that I was very down to say the least with the amount of rubbish I was receiving. With those suggestions, and some changes of my own, I think I may have seriously reduced the problem, I will have to wait and see over the next few days. The results so far are encouraging. I must stress that I was not laying the blame at the door of this, or any other genealogy site. If it seemed that was my inference, then I apologise, especially to those who work hard at keeping the site going. At no time did I intend to give that impression. You will see my name start to appear again on the boards, but on a bit of a reduced scale for the moment, due to other commitments. Again, I thank you all for your support and help. Paul |
