From your replies it seems a good thing, but can you tell us the actual web address? as there seems to be a couple of sites with ANCESTRY? Thank you Tracie

I also think that ancestry is well worth the money. I have had 2 free trials and 2 lots of 3 months subscriptions. Have had no problems cancelling them at any time. I am not subscribing at the mo because my hubby has just changed his job and we are trying to count the pennies, but I must admit that I do miss it! Will hopefully get back to it when the 1871 has a few more of my ancestors on! Maggy

Hi Susan, I've been a subscriber for quite a while now, and I don't think it's that expensive, really. Works out about £1.50 a week?! Each time I think I've had about as much as I can get out of the site, they add something else to keep you there! Well worth every penny, in my humble opinion. Michelle, It's an ongoing subscription (works the same way as a direct debit). They do send you a reminder e-mail that the subscription is due, but they will keep taking the money until you cancel your membership. Debbie

I joined for 3 months and then cancelled, having done as many searches as I could in that time. I found quite a lot of information and then I cancelled by e-mail. They acknowledged my cancellation and I have had no problems. I am now thinking about re-susbscribing and looking for more info on new relatives I've discovered elsewhere. Coincidentally they e-mailed me today with a questionnaire about family research which I would happily have filled in, but it didn't appear to be working.

Thank you everyone for your help. Rosalyn - I'm sure my husband has Scottish relatives but he's not interested in his ancestors, says he can't even remember his grandfather's name!!!! I will delve eventually.

I just looked at Ancestry.com tonight and found that you can do a free search for relatives -you put in your surname and date-I didn`t find anything yet but I`ll look again -I know what you mean about sites that you pay as I`ve spent a lot on scotlandspeople-but have got a lot of my info there. Happy hunting -any Scottish relatives? Rosalyn

I am on the one month free trial at the mo, I have heard stories that if/when you try to cancel so that you don't get charged, you cant get through on the number, or your emails don't get acknowledged. I haven't decided what to do yet, but I thought it was worth the risk of maybe paying £70 for a year. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, what with Ancestry and this site, more to the point, this board, I have no life!! My husband just see's my profile all evening! I am really going to have to control my urge to sit at the PC each evening. It's great!! BTW you do get re-charged at the end of each year, unless you unsubscribe.

Hi all, I too am considering subscribing but have heard bad reports in the past about unsubscribing and cancelling and them taking more money, this is the only thing putting me off. Does anyone know if when your subscription expires do they take more money from your card or do you have to resubscribe to continue using the site. Michele

Thank you Ann and Nicola. It is a lot of money and this site is a great way of helping you make a decision. Susan

Hi I guess it depends where your relations are, and how much info you have already. I've found it really worth the money, especially now it's introducing the 1901 census. At least you can interrogate it and make decisions and view the ennumerators' sheets at no extra cost. The 1891 is complete (with transcription errors of course, sadly) and the 1871 is growing. I've found it really useful Best wishes Ann

I know this question might be like 'how long is a piece of string' but has anyone subscribed to Ancestry.com and felt that it has been good value for money. I'm worried that if I join I won't find any of my ancestors on there. Thanks, Susan
