Hi there, My Gt.Grandmother was born in Sydney Nova Scotia in 1835. On the InGeneas site I found her travelling with her daughter on board ship heading for- La Salle Ma- The ship docked at Halifax Nova Scotia and her destination was as above. Would this place be in Canada please? Many thanks, Sandra |

What's her name so I can find the entry? Are you sure it's Ma and not MB, MI, MN or MT? Crista |

Tyne, There's no town called La Salle in Massachusetts. La Salle University is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There are several places called La Salle in Canada and the US. Crista |

Yes, just realised the uni is in another state so I deleted that bit. But MA is definitely an abbreviation for Massachussetts... as well as the more commonly known one, Mass. Tyne |

Tyne, I don't think it's MA though. Having lived there for several years I don't remember anywhere called La Salle. It certainly doesn't show on any maps. I wish Sandra could get back to us. Don't you just hate it when someone posts a message and then disappears when you have questions? Crista |

Hi All, I sent for a transcription which is sent via email after they receive your money at InGeneas. My Gt.Grandmother Mary Hind (nee Wheeldon,Weedon) and one of her children Mary A. Hind. I noticed ages were correct for both. Also ticket nos. were consecutive. In 1887 They were travelling on the Allan Line Vessel Name Circassian. Departed from Liverpool(They resided in Oxton Notts in UK). Ship Bound for Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and Portland. On their Tickets is says they were contracted to land at (Port of)Halifax and there destination was LaSalle, Ma. I mispelt LaSalle in Title ( I put La Salle which was incorrect). Many Thanks for any help, Sandra |

Hi I had a look on Mulitmap Canada & USA. The USA ones were "CO" & "IL", but Canada has MB & ON. I assume MB is Manitoba? - which may have been abbreviated as MA by someone who wasn't being very careful, or maybe that was an earlier abbreviation. (had to put "" round the USA ones because of the dreaded GR URL suppression parameters!!!) Christine |

Sandra, Was she meeting her husband? What was his name? Perhaps I can find them on the US censuses. There's Lasalle, LA. Crista |

Sorry mispelt your Name Crista, Definitely Ma. I am assuming was somewhere in Canada. Trouble is don't know her parents names that is why I am trying to find where she went as that may be where her parents were. Maybe one was sick or dead and she was going to funeral. They had quite a few children so probably couldn't afford for them all to go. Sandra |

Sandra, Mary was Canadian. She was born in Sydney, NS. She probably returned to Canada. One of her daughters was born in Halifax, NS. Crista |

Hi David, That sounds good to me. I didn't think of Manitoba. Thankyou very much. I shall try and find her Family there. It is worth a shot. Mary has been my Brick Wall now for quite a few years. Best wishes, Sandra |

Sandra, Nowadays Manitoba is MB as I mentioned in my first message. It could have been Ma back then before they changed the format so it wouldn't clash with the American State abbreviations. Crista |
