On Monday I e mailed them to ask for location of Gt Grandparent's and grandparent's graves, giving date and place of death. had e mail back to say he was out of the office. Today I have received an e mail giving me full details and locations of both graves. This is the second time they have helped me so a public thank you to MR O'BRIAN. Ann Glos

Glad you got the informtion you needed. I have found that the cemetery office staff in Hartlepool are just as helpful (I spend almost as much time there as I do on GR) and have had lots of information from them. Kath. x

Unfortunately my Gt grandparents grave never had a monument on it and in 1950 the rights were not purchased so has someone else in it. he assured me though that the bodies were not disturbed, the remaining space was just used. (hope they all get on down there!!) Apparently there is a monument on my Grandparents so i hope to get there some time. Ann Glos

Which cemetery, Ann? My grandparents had a gravestone, but the council cleared them all one year. My aunt, who had presumably ignored the notification I imagine they would have had to give, turned up, bought flowers at the gate, then realised she hadn't a clue where the grave was any more, so she got her money back on the flowers! Ann, he's a great bloke--i found my great grandmothers daughters grave in the summer and her brother ,whos 96 and living in the states, wanted a headstone put there but like yours someone else had also been buried there but because it was about 40yrs ago he let us buy the grave so we could get a stone---hopefully being laid at the end of january. we've also had some good chats about Ireland as he comes from near where my Dad is from Karen

Have to say when I was first starting out on this game, I contacted Goole town council about the cemetary. Not only did I receive an e mail back but they also posted me a plan with the grave marked on it. Well done Goole Glynis

Karen, that's very kind of you. There are no gravestones for them, but I was sent one photo of the area where Gt-gt-Grandad is buried. Later on I was told where gt-gt-Granny was buried, and her baby, and was sent a plan but wasn't sent a photo. If I send you the details, I would *love* to have a photo, please. I must try to remember later at home to send them to you!! Joy

Its really good when people are so helpful but not so with the Islington Cemetary at Finchley. I've been trying to obtain information from them since March last year, the present situation is that the chap in charge has promised to email me by the end of January, so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. Karen - here are the details of my great-great-grandparents' burials, and of baby William's. I shall send you my email address. Many, many thanks. Joy .................................. William Harrison died 24 May 1888 in 3 Victoria Street, Forton, USD, at 71 years of age. His body was interred 28 May 1888 in Anns Hill Cemetery, Gosport. Plot 104. Priscilla Harrison died 17 December 1860 in 8 Mill Lane, Forton, Gosport, at 41 years of age. Her body was interred 23 December 1860 in Anns Hill Cemetery, Gosport. Plot 53. Burial plot unconsecrated. William John Harrison died 7 September 1860 in 8 Mill Lane, Forton, Gosport, at 1 year of age. His body was interred 14 September 1860 in Anns Hill Cemetery, Gosport. Plot 77. Burial plot unconsecrated. NB Place name source - courtesy of Gosport Museum Website "Anns Hill - Annswell. 14th century. Annswell probably derives from Old English enadawiell - ducks' stream - reflecting the stream that once flowed into the head of Forton millpond. Later the name transferred itself to a natural spring at the corner of Mill Road with Brockhurst Road. The transformation from well to hill, decades before the first railway bridge, is quite obscure. Perhaps there was once a slight rise in the otherwise flat landscape (now lost to brick-earth excavation) which was ironically called a hill."

The first time I emailed Rochdale Cem office about my ggg grandparents, they were ever so helpful, and sent me the full details via email for free and sent a map too, 2nd time, I enquired about about my ggg grans sister a different woman responded and she was extremely unhelpful, and in the end she very reluctanly sent us the information. I also contacted Oldham Cem Office and all the woman would do was confirm that the named people were buried in a particular plot and if I wanted to know who the others in the plot I'd have to pay about £30. I have'nt yet paid as I'm certain who 5 of them just not sure the 6th person in there is. George
