Hello Peter I hope you have a good time at the RO in Winchester - I've promised myself a visit there one day (a long day-trip from SW Herts, or perhaps a w/e visit to friends), with droves of CHRISTMASes (and others) in East Worldham, Southampton, Portchester and Farnham, etc, I won't be short of things to look up! If you have a moment to spare, amongst all the things I want to look up, there is one particular marriage in 1851, in the March quarter, that's bugging me at the moment. It's almost certainly in East Worldham, but could be in Farringdon. It's registered in the Alton District per the GRO lists, anyway. The groom is Eli CHRISTMAS - and if it's my Eli (b 1806, father William CHRISTMAS), a widower, assuming his 1st wife, Marianne (nee FOSTER) is the Marianne CHRISTMAS who died in the March quarter of 1841. The bride is one of: COCHRANE, Marianne Richardson VENTHAM, Mary Ann Even if the groom doesn't meet my age and widower criteria, it would still be interesting to know the details about the marriage so I can see where it actually fits into the "Christmas Tree". All the 12 children have "Marianne" as a mother and the birth dates appear to range from 1829 to 1856 (assuming all my sources are valid) so it isn't certain that there are two different mothers - just that I'd like to try to clear up the possibility. It would mean that three of the children were born between the marriages, but it would explain how we had both 1810 and 1821 as possible birthdates for Marianne at one stage! I have set out the fully-detailed info on a Word-rtf document which I could e-mail to you if you want to contact me direct with a suitable address. If you don't have time for this, don't worry - it will certainly save until I get there myself. Have a great time! Christine

Have you booked your film or fiche readers Peter? Winchester has such sensible long hours, until 7pm- it's great. It can get very busy but less so later in the day, when normal folk go home to make tea. Enjoy your day.

I will do my best to look up all requests BUT this is my first time doing it, so bare with me if I can not get them all done. I will be going again as I only live 7 miles from Winchester.

Thank you for letting us know, Peter. Please offer my condolences to your wife. I don't know how expected it was, but I do know that death still comes as a shock even when it isn't a surprise. Christine
