Are they on an 1881? Sorry, cant be them, they are both laying smugly in my local churchyard grinning up at me and not saying a damn word. Edward born 1735 died aged 92 and Liz born 1741 died aged 87 (blimey they lived good ages my lot). So I know where they are now, I know where they were in 1770 when their 4th kid was baptised but before that ---------zilcho. Another Alien landing job.

Hi TC, Just read your thread after sending you a message! I took a trip one weekend back to the village where my father and grandfather were born. I just started chatting to a very old guy there and he remembered my father and all his siblings and he came up with documents and photos and lots of info about them for me. Just goes to show, it just started out as a trip down memory lane and turned into a treasure trove!! Like some of the others have said on here, you never know when something will crop up! Good luck! TC You can only make a breakthrough after you've come up against some dead ends. Its only because we get fed up and feel we are going nowhere/round in circles that we get excited when we DO find gt gt auntie Gert on the census. Hang on in there. Go through your notes. By the way, whats with everyone changing their names especially to feline ones - I cant keep up with it and am not sure who anyone is any more! Are you really JP? TC I had a girls night in this evening with a group of fh friends. One had just found a birth certificate that she had been looking for for over twenty years! Hope you don't go that long till your breakthrough!

Yes sorry guys, I shouldnt whinge, but what with life generally I would really have liked a big breakthrough to cheer me up! Selfish of me, I apologise. Yes, perhaps I will have a go doing different googles to see if any of them are lurking. If only rotten Edward Horstead and Elizabeth Selby would show up, that would make my day, week, month, year! Hello T.C. I have been researching my family tree for 18 months and have on several occasions thought I had hit various brick walls. I have found that by using various internet sites where you can add your surname interests, or post questions on sites such as rootsweb or Rootchat for example that your message is always out there. I have had e-mails from these sites advising that someone has responded to my queries in some cases over a year after I had posted the message. I just recently had a response from someone in Australia to a message on Rootschat posted by me early last year. He eventually provided me with tons of information on a particular branch of the family, as he had researched the parish records. Just keep chiselling away. Good hunting Jenny

Hi TC, Do what I've just done. Do a few name searches on GC and you never know, there may be a relative lurking there that you didn't know about.... I've just found one by putting a surname and place of birth only! Good hunting, Gillian

I think we have all been at that point. Something will turn up, keep looking. I spend a day on just one family when that happens, put some look ups on the boards and see if anything turns up. If not move on to another family the next time, something usually clicks and then I am off again. Good Luck Irene

I do know the feeling, TC. The snag is that we can't choose our ancestors. Have you looked at the NRO website to see if there are any exciting records for places where your ancestors lived? How about a little trip to London and the Southwark Archives to take your mind off other problems? I sometimes feel that my ancestors delight in playing peep-bo, jumping out when you least expect them. But you never find them if you don't look. Good luck B

Hi - I know how you feel. I've stopped looking for a while to see if I can look at it all again with fresh eyes. I am researching the name Jones in London so you can imagine what I'm up against. I can't believe the brickwall I've hit. Our rellies did'nt make life easy for us with fibs about dates and names. I hope they are feeling guilty. Good luck - Shirli

Hi Heather, I've just had this problem too, but I now seem to have a couple of 'leads' worth following again - when I get to this point I usually spend a few days trawling the boards for ideas of where else to try, and try and help other people at the same time - it keeps my interest going and usually ends up giving me a lead of some kind. good hunting. Hi guys its months now since I found some exciting and new info on my lot. Ive gone back looking at all my notes to find new lines but they turn out dead ends too. Do you all get this? Cant make it out, some I cant even find 1851 back. Cant even spend £7 on a cert. Whinge, whinge, whinge.
