Another good Lambeth site: http://www(.)lambethlandmark(.)com/ The Book that Brenda mentions (and Brenda knows the area!) is available on amazon online. They also have a brief £1.99 history on there too.

There is a good website at www(.)ideal-homes(.)org(.)uk/lambeth (remove the brackets) which has photos of Lambeth streets in victorian times. I originally found it by googling the name of the street which was on my rellies marriage certificate from 1856.

On the subject of Lambeth.... Does it make sense for someone to register a birth in Lambeth,be married in Southwark, then have a birth registered in lambeth afterwards. The lady was born in Camberwell in 1906. Are these places close? Thanks for any pointers Pam H.

If you contact Southwark Archives library (they have a website) they could give you a list of books they have for sale on the area.

Hi, Another good website is www. francisfrith.com it has photo's from all over England. Lambeth is under Greater London and not Surrey as I have just checked. Also I think you can buy books from this site. Carol x

Sorry, it's not Victorian! However, in case it's of interest, it is called Lambeth 1950 - 1970 Britain in Old Photographs by Beryl Barrow. The Images of England series by Patrick Loobey are good. I have them for Balham and Tooting, and for Wandsworth. Other books about London that I would recommend are: Peter Ackroyd's London the biography and The Illustrated Mayhew's London (which can be found online, or some of it anyway). :-) Joy
