Can you find any of the marriage witnesses linked to one particular Daisy? In a census perhaps or as an informant at another family event?

when you said both fathers were William, I thought you'd already got both birth certs. One of them is Humphrey and the other is Humphreys. These things are never set in concrete, but a lot of people had made their minds up by 1900. There was probably more uncertainty about Humphreys / Humphries, which are always liable to be swopped by third parties anyway. Not sure how you've got it down to 2, unless you know she lived in Essex all her life. Middle names aren't always reliable either. 2 of my 8 g-gps had a middle name at marriage that they didn't have at birth. However, that was 30 years earlier, maybe the craze had passed by 1900. But anyway. The 1901 census has 16 girls under 2 called Daisy Humphrey/Humphreys/Humphries, subject to mistranscription. Can't see an obvious match for the West Ham birth. But there's a Daisy Humphreys (mistranscribed Humpherys on Ancestry) age 2 living Lawford born Ardleigh, which is in Tendring reg dist, though much closer to Colchester. Her father William was a bricklayer in 1901. He was also a bricklayer in 1891, though he seems to have been a Humphries then. That might rule one of them out. Not sure if it guarantees that the West Ham one is right though.

I can't think of any way except getting the birth certs and checking the father's occupation - unless you can specify father's occupation as a checking point when you order the cert? I'm not sure whether you can, but guess not. By the way, what was his occupation? Kate.

Daisy was born around 1899/1900 and died around 1941! I havent got a birth certificate for her yet i want to see if i can establish which one is the correct one before i order it. We think it is possible she was in Middlesex around 1939 so it is possible she died there but like i said her sons were all put into a home in Chelmsford, Essex after she died so im not too sure. Don't you just hate it when you finally think you have found something then you get stuck with this. I have also since found out that the father from both Tendring and West Ham were in fact both William's. I don't know what to do. If i decide to get both certificates what do i do if they both had the same occupation!!! xx

Her marriage certificate should also give father's occupation as well as his name. Does father's occupation on either birth certificate match the one on her marriage cert? Kate.

When was she born? nell

Carol Report 7 Jul 2005 21:26

If her death was after 1984, then her date of birth will be on the index (or the date that the informant thought was her date of birth) Before that, then her age at death should be on the index.

a May Daisy Humphrey born 13 May 1910 died in 1992. Any chance that date matches one of your births?

Rosemary

Rosemary Report 7 Jul 2005 21:12

Were these 2 birth records for the same year? If not, then you might want to get her death record to see her age. That is if you know how old she was when she died. Rose

I have 2 possibilities for Daisy May Humphrey one that she was born in West Ham Essex and the other one that she was born in Tendring Essex and lived in Ardleigh. I thought i could find which one was correct by seeing what the fathers names were since i have her marriage certificate. However both Daisys have a father by the name of William so now i am stuck!! How can i find which one was mine. My great grandmother lived in Earls Colne around 1934 since that is where my grandfather was born she lived around Lexden during the period 1935 - 1937 at least as that is where my grandfathers brthers were born! How can i find out which one is mine?? Is there any way?? The only other info i knw about her is that she died around 1941 when my grandfather was about 7 years old and him and his brothers were put into a home in Chelmsford so maybe they were living in that area!!! Hope someone can help xx
