Both Jess and I have looked for this and can't find it so it possibly is not there. On IGI marriage Gilbert Foy (1841) to Elizabeth Dawson (1841) 19th August 1865, Manchester Cathedral, Lancashire. Cannot find it on Ancestry. Can you find it please. I need the GRO number to send for cert. NEW BIT-----From the info I received from Margaret I sent for the cert. Got e-mail yesterday to tell me the mans name on the cert is not Gilbert Foy. Where do I go now? Gloria (in a muddle) xx

Dizzy, thanks a lot for looking. I realise IGI isn't the best of sources thats why I wanted to confirm it somehow. Thanks again Gloria

Hi Gloria, Sorry it wasn't the one you were looking for, I did wonder when the page numbers were different, but being very new to this I am not too sure of anything. Is the date quite clear on IGI or could it be another one ? Mags ( still looking for you ) :)

Not to worry Margaret, a bit new to this myself and treading water at the minute. It definitely gives that date on IGI. Gloria x

Just a thought---this info (IGI) had been transcribed from the original film ( I presume ) so, whoever did that could have read it wrong. There is a mormon temple near us so perhaps I should pay them a visit. Never been in one of those so don't really know what to expect. Do you just turn up at the door? Gloria

Don't forget FreeBMD isn't complete. Always check the coverage charts: http://freebmd.rootsweb.*com/progressM.shtml Remove the * Crista

Did I send you both of the images ? I know I had trouble sending them through ( another thing I am not very good at ! ) The reason I ask is that there are 2 Elizabeths on the page. The one I looked at first and told you about was 8d 623 which didn't fit with Gilbert 8d 310, but there is another Elizabeth which is 8d 310. MagsXX

I only got one Margaret. So are we thinking that if I sent for another cert with v8d, page310 that it should come up? Please say yes!!!! Gloria

Heather Report 3 Aug 2005 08:49

Gloria, if you have an exact date for the marriage you could email or phone the local records office and ask them to photocopy it for you - they usually charge only a couple of quid. Im sure someone must have told you that freebmd and hence ancestry, which use their information is far from complete. The Mormon church itself wont have any records. You will need to contact the nearest family centre - the addresses are all on the familysearch site - and order that particular film to look at. Just realised its post 1837 so the charge will be £7 same as GRO.

Heather-good news--the church near us is one of the family centres. So if all else fails ----- Gloria x

Good Luck! It makes a change to look for people who didn't marry their relatives, as mine all seem to be doing at the moment. I am just about to post a thread about it now. Magsxx
