Thanks Everybody, Elizabeth has found a reference on a german site of the marriage of Joseph Leberl to my husbands great aunt. Apparently he came from Vienna. She is searching further for me. Thanks Linda

On 10th July last year Jake Laberl was playing for Dagenham & Redbridge against AFC Wimbledon. He has played for Dover Athletic (with, allegedly, some somewhat controversial moves in a a match against Harlow Town on 'Saturday November 27th' (no year). Otherwise the name seems to crop up quite a bit in (eastern) Austria - as well as the references to the flavoured rolls (in the same area). Christine

Where did the events, of which you've found records, take place? that might give clues about where he might be findable. Christine

Linda, which is correct, Leberl or Laberl?

Robin

Robin Report 28 Jul 2005 17:32

I looked up a few Google sites and found it translated (via Dutch) as meatball - or collop. It's also a name, however, as I saw a couple of Herr Laberls mentioned. Regards Robin

Hi Nell, It's very clear on the marriage certificate and then I found the marriage between Joseph Leberl and the bride's sister in 1910. Linda

Linda As its a foreign name, it might well have been mistranscribed on the census. Perhaps if you get his marriage cert to the sister his father's first name might be a clue. UI can't see the marriage on Ancestry civil reg. Nothing for Laberl on familysearch either. nell

Just looked at Ancestry for you and found 3 in the States but none in England.... but unfortunately I do not have excess to the US site. If you need to look at a German site please ask, willing to help if I can, and will keep on looking for you. Elizabeth PS Are you sure the spelling is correct, just searched Family Search, Free BMD plus Ancestry and come up with null results.

Could be a Polish name. The article keeps mentioning something about Polaks marrying Christians so their children can be brought up by some organisation. Hmm? Joseph Laberl Evansville Ward 6, Vanderburgh, IN abt 1843 Nassau White Male from 1870 census. He's the head. Wife was born in Prussia.

Hi Elizabeth, The name is on my Husbands fathers marriage certificate as a witness. I found out through Ancestry that Joseph Laberl was married to the brides sister. I can't find him on any Census so presumed he was born abroad. There are two Laberl's on the BMD Ancestry, coincidentally near me in Kent. Linda

I found one page for a Herr Laberl, but it doesn't give his first name. Does show it as a surname though. (I lied - he was Mr. Karl Maria Laberl) Nothing comes up under Joseph Laberl.

Hi Linda, just had a look for you on Google but there is not a family with that name on it. The word Laberl seems to be for a sort of bread or a napkin. Do you have the correct spelling because I just searched for Laberl genealogy or familie and nothing came up. Please let me know if I can be of any further help. Elizabeth

All the sites are German Thanks Linda........................................... I would like to thank Elizabeth as she has found a website for the name Leberl with the date of birth and a photo of him and a long story about him, telling of his wife and all their children.
