Hi Brenda I have contacted that Steven to see if he knows anything, but havent heard anything back yet so fingers crossed. I didnt know about the Maria person so might give them an email too. Carol is actually my MIL, so dont need to contact her!!!! You wont find the marriage between Victor and my MIL parents as they decided to go to Scotland to marry, just to make things complicated!!! Thanks for the Sylvia info, will add that to my list of lookups and see what i can find.

Brenda you are amazing. If this all comes out, my MIL will be stunned and so pleased. im thinking of doing her a family tree for her birthday in october it would be so lovely to have plenty of family for her as she was raised by her mums parents. that sounds like a bit of a sob story actually! Thanks again

Hi I don't know if I can be of any help with Hebe, but as you have mentioned Uckfield I think you will find that the family 'Charlwood' came from Horley and the village Charlwood which is near Uckfield, I have a few hundred Charlwoods on my tree, although Hebe isn't one of them. It just that my Charlwoods after about 1880 ended up in Lewisham as well!!, so, I am wondering if our families connect. Who was Hebe's father? do you know. either leave a message on the thread or send me a message, and I will try and connect you with me, I can go back (straight line to about 1630) with the Charlwood's...best wishes......Lilly ps my late mum was a Charlwood and was born in 1914 in Lewisham.

Robyne, Why don't you search for a Strudwick - Ives marriage first to make sure it's the right person. Hate you to waste £7! Janice

Thanks very much for checking again. Think i might get the death cert of the Hebe Strudwick and see what that says. Thanks again for looking so much

As an added thing, My MIL was always told that her dads mum (hebe) committed suicide before her mum and dad got married (1958). do you think this is a lie and she just left and that was the easiest thing to say?

Going on the birth reference Brenda found, I searched the death information on Ancestry (1984 - 2002). This is the only Hebe with the same birth year and quarter: Name: Hebe Strudwick Death Year: [1987] Age: 69 Birth Date: 27 Jan 1918 Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1987 Registration District: Haringey Inferred County: Greater London Inferred Country: England Would have to find a marriage between her and Mr Strudwick to prove (unless her death certificate gave her maiden name). Hebe is a recognised name, albeit unusual. I wonder if it has been incorrectly recorded as Phebe or even Phoebe? nell

Thanks for looking, i have 1837 so think i will need to trawl through that. on the birth cert it definately looks like Hebe so im not sure what else it can be! its such a bizarre name that you would think it would be easy to find!

Robyne I have checked for Hebe's birth between 1880 and 1923 and these are the only female Charwood births: Charwood Emily Louise Croydon.2a 226 Birth 4 1882 Charwood Florence West Ham.4a 346 Birth 3 1909 Charwood Mabel Priseilla Hackney.1b 528 Birth 1 1897 Are you sure of her first name? After 1920, FamilyRelatives has not been transcribed, so I am not able to search for the marriage of Hebe and Robert (Leonard), or any other children, or Hebe's death. Sorry. My only suggestion is if you go to your local library and search the microfiche quarter by quarter, or subscribe to 1837online. Suzy

my hubbys g'dad was Victor Ives born in 1939 in Lewisham. His dad was Robert Leonard (or Leonard Robert), born 17/5/1908 died in 1990. His wife was Hebe Charwood who died sometime between 1939 and 1958 as when victor married, he had a step mum. I am struggling to find Hebe at all at the moment, and i know i could get Victor's birth cert to get the info of his parents. my MIL is quite keen to know if he had any more children as her mum seems to 'forget' everything when asked.
