Abraham Rose born Germany c1841 I have him on the 1871 and 1881 census in 57 Oakley Road Islington the 1891 census 10 Kenmure Road Hackney , but cannot find him or wife Susan on the 1901 census really need to find his death as he changed his name by deed poll and I am hoping there is some ref to it on his death cert thanks a lot . Of course I could have missed them again but dont think so thanks I have looked on 1837 between 1891 and 1911 I know some of you helped and found him on the 1891 for me thanks a lot but I am desperate to find his death

was he Born Rose, or was that his 'new name'?

that is his new name I believe it was Guttenberg which he changed by deed poll when he was quite young before he got married anyway

because the wine has gone to my head, i've done a lookup on Family Relatives 1891-1920. It is much quicker and cheaper to use than 1837online, for reasonably unusual names, up to 1920. There are the Abraham Rose death reg's. Nothing looks good - the indexes are supposed to be complete. Maybe he lived to over 80 and is hiding in 1901? Valerie I did a search of all first name Abraham males aged 60 +/- 2 years born Germany, and the only one that looked even vaguely likely was this one, partly because the address is Hackney and partly because Joffe could just about be a mistranscription for Rose, but perhaps your Abraham had become a British citizen: Abraham Jaffe 60 Germany German Subject London Hackney Property Agent Is it the right occupation, what do you think? Maybe someone with Ancestry sub can check him out and see if he is a widower and if the image could be Rose? nell

Checking for Rose born Germany I found these, any connection? Henry Rose 58 Germany German Subject London St Mary Stratford Bow Shoe Maker Carl Rose 59 Germany London Camberwell Watchmaker nell

Valerie Of course, if you order the Susan death cert (if it IS her) it will state whether she is wife or widow on it, so you will know whether Abraham died before or after 1900. nell
