I know someone who sold her child to a relative but she was found out and I was told eventually the relative was allowed to legally adopt him , well recently on here someone said that if someone was adopted there would be a remark made on the birth registration well I have looked as I know his details and there is nothing on the page to say anything about this, does that mean she was lying or does it differ from authority to authority |

Not sure who told you that. usually an original cert will have adopted on the end, depends if the birth was re-registered. If not the cert will be as it stood. Not sure what you mean by the 'page' |

Hi Val No not nessarery ,not all adopted children have this alteration against their name on the GRO Birth Indexes,, But very often the birth index ref number is altered, and this then showes that a new certificate has been issued in the new name<< but it is not a full birth cert)and the altered number corresponds with the adoption order number,, So that you havnt seen one doesnt mean they were not adopted,, Kay, |

I assumed it was because he is under 50 years of age he is actually my Nephew I have the year quarter and place parents names but not the actual day he was born and when I applied I was told I could not have it |

Val, If he was adopted it is very doutful he will still be using his own birth surname,,but the surname may be the same as his birth name ie ,if he was adopted by a family member of the same,,, but it would be very very doutful if they placed a child in a family of the same surname. kay, |

it was my Sisters baby her Brother in law and wife had him so the surname is the same , my sister had an affair the baby was the result of it and her husband said if she got rid of it(the baby) he would have her back so she did!!! thats if he was adopted by them I know he grew up with them but whether it was legal or not I dont know . |

There probaby isn't going to be a re-registration then - i cant see What useful purpose it would serve given that (i understand what you have written) his surname didn't change. A birth cert that is re-issued after adoption doesn't carry parents names or anything, just the childs name. if there was a plan in place , i'd guess the new parents gave the child the christain name of their choice at the time of this birth anyway. jess |

I don't understand why you weren't allowed the cert as I requested one for my Dad's fisrt wive's daughter and it was duly delivered and she is a year younger than me - 26. Did they give you a reason? Pippa |

To obtain a birth certificate of a person under 50 years of age, the correct birth date is required. You cannot get a certificate using the usual ref's. This comes up on the GRO websight as you attempt to buy the certificate, and block any further progression. Victor |

Valerie, It was me who you were referring to-i didnt say that if you were adopted there would necessarily be a mark against the name-i said that on SOME occasions, the digits were changed due to re registration. |

Is this a new thing where you need the correct date of birth as I just ordered it with the usual refs. Pippa |

You need a date of birth if the cert you want is for someone still around. GRO online won't let you order it without. I assume this is to prevent people using birth certs for identity fraud, getting false passports etc. nell |
