Charles Potter born 1878 essex 1881 census living in layer breton essex with parents{charles snr] and charles snr brother alfred born 1864 . Tryed to charles snr and alfred on the 1871 census but can only find alfred in one house hold as son and charles in another as son . where should i go from here ,which one do i choose to try to follow up any help please catherine

this is what makes it so confusing charles edger born 1878 was reg charles edger potter-bond married as charles edger potter . found on 1881 census as potter bond then after that take your pick potter-bond or potter catherine

Catherine, I don't understand what you're getting at. The Charles I found was born in 1850. The Alfred I found was born in 1864. Both fit. I also found Charles with the same parents and siblings in 1861 that Alfred had in 1871.

I think I know which other one you were sent. I looked at that to begin with, but then realised the parents were different. Hope this information helps you :)

Hi Catherine the solution to your problem is that Alfred is not Charles's brother he is his Nephew. William and Mary had.. William 1831 James 1834 Mary Ann 1838 Eliza 1841 John 1844 Jeramiah 1848 Charles 1849 Henry 1851 Matilda 1856 maybe one died between Henry & Matilda The William with Ann is the one born 1831 to William and Mary so Alfred there son is Charles nephew just written down wrong on the census Regards Colette

There are two Charles - one born to William and Ann, the other to William and Mary. So, Charles is Alfreds brother, but he also has an Uncle called Charles.
