Helen, that's great news! I just got back from Scunthorpe a couple of days ago. I didn't have time to go to Brigg but I went to Scunny museum which I found was unhelpfully closed on Mondays! Anyway, I was going to send you the Nostalgia magazine contact info but you've done it already! glad you're getting on well. xx Jen

hi Helen, how's it going? I am going up to Scunny in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I will be trying to find pics or info on the workhouse, Brigg Park at top of high street and the cattle market. If there's anything else I can look for let me know on this thread or by pm. xx Jen

Not sure about pictures but there is some information here http://www.workhouses.org.uk/ Just put Lincolnshire in the search box then scroll down a bit to Glanford Brigg.

Hi, Have been looking in a 'nostalgia' magazine and in it is a photo of Glanford Infirmary not a very good one though but I am more than happy to scan it for you. Helen Habergham

Hi again Helen, (got your pm, thanks) If that workhouse was a hospital until 1991, what happened then? Even if it was knocked down there must be a way of finding a photo at least. And do you know the address? I will be going up there in the next few weeks. I will also ask my family what they know of the place. In my book 'An Industrial Island - A History of Scunthorpe' edited by ME Armstrong I have found a mention of the Brigg workhouse. If I don't get back to you in the next few days, send me another PM or add to this thread. I try to be organised but may forget, so gimme a nudge. xx Jen

I've searched for images and also the workhouse website: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/GlanfordBrigg/GlanfordBrigg.html no images online. Perhaps there are some photos in the relevant county records office. nell
