At last, I've been waiting over 2 months, but this morning I have just managed to export my tree. Such excitment! Anne

To all those out there trying to download their trees. THIS IS SO DAMN ANNOYING AND I AM FRUSTRATED WITH THE LACK OF HELP FROM GR. I have a good mind to take my tree of permanently whenever I get chance to see it. This is ridiculous. I've lost count of how many times I have asked GR to sort this problem out - whatever the problem is! Someone from GR confirmed today that it should be working. When? GR take sooooo long to answer e-mails its a joke.

Well it's still not fixed, i still have EXCACTLY the same problem I've been having all along. My subscription runs out tomorrow so I don't know if I'll be able to post anything more here after then. Anyway, I'll e-mail them asking for a copy of my gedcom to be sent via e-mail & see if they'll do that (googd idea from above). I'm not very impressed at the moment with the speed at which this problem is(not) being acknowledged as real & fixed- the gedcom complier is the bees knees... when it works. BUT -IT IS BROKE! please fix it genes please, I want my tree!

Kylie Report 27 Oct 2005 13:20

Last time I was unable to download it they sent it to me in an e-mail which was very good of them. I've asked 3 times in the last 2 days but they still say its fixed. I've got approx 520 surnames (2,500 people) in my tree and I only hope they dont lose it! I havent got a recent copy which is really stupid of me. Oh, if you havent got a copy of your tree - back it up. GR told me once before that if their servers go down they dont have a backup facility!!

Yes, I've always had problems downloading my gedcom file. The download box never opens and the page freezes halfway. I've contacted them about it 3 times now and this morning they say they have fixed the problem - yer right! I still cant download it. Any ideas?

I've spent alot of time cross referencing others information, I've had about 7 really helpful sources of the same family lines - each version was slightly different & I've added my own discoveries too as in more kids, Plus stuff from old wills etc. I've got several thousand more people waiting for a home on my genes tree - but I don't want to spend the time adding them if the database/gedcom is broke! Saying all that, my tree is quite small compared to some I've seen!

I just can't organize my brain, do my tree or anything until they fix the gedcom thingy!!! tried it twice today - still not working. Nice lady from genes said they were gonna fix it yesterday, I'm starting to worry now that there is a bigger problem, I'm still adding names though. BTW - how did you manage to fry your computer (person above) I've never known that happen - ever!

Lastest error codes when I try to export are: Error: Connection failure(16389-Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) Error: Permission denied(70-HappyGenesReunited) My membership runs out in a few days and you've got my tree!

Hi Zara - I contacted GR a while ago with the same problem. They've given me an extra month's membership and say they are working on it. I find it pays to email them and not go through 'contact' - you're more likely to get a reply. PS Didn't do as well as Brenda though!!!

Zara Report 23 Oct 2005 20:59

Thanks for the replies, I was starting to think it was just me:) I got a reply once saying they were working on 'it' whatever it is. The gedcom complier is one of my favorite parts of Genes, I hope they get it sorted soon. Software I'm using for my gedcom is 'treedraw' the free version I got off a disc & ged2html (I think?) - a clever gizmo anyway, that makes one of those A-Z surname websites - I've got enough people in my tree to make it useful to others (abt 1400 people) & now the export button isn't working tipical! I don't fancy typing out all those names again...please genes fix the database:(

Hi Zara I spent about 2 months trying to get them to sort my gedcom file out and in the end I managed it myself although one of the support staff did offer in the end to try and do it for me. What package are you using for your gedcom? I am using Family Historian and I had to prepare a special gedcom file with no sources or notes or anything and then it finally went through although I must say I still have had to alter some of the info on the Genes site.
