depending on which index site for BMD references you use you could search for other children born in the same county with your grandmothers surname and the same mothers maiden name. Family relatives is probally the best as between 1866 and 1920 thay have fully transcribed the indexes so it would be easier to search.

Look in the birth indexes for children with the same surname and the same mother's maiden name born in the right place. Janice

yes you do. The 2 main site for the indexes are Family Relatives and 1837online. Both sites give you a certine number of units to use for searching the indexes in exchange of payment. Family relatives has full transcriptions of 1866 to 1920 but does not have any records pre 1866. 1837online has all the pages from sept quarter 1837 to dec quarter 1983 but thay are all name ranges. also has oversea indexes and 1861 census. Both sites have full transcriptions of 1984 to 2003. www.familyrelatives(.)org www.1837online(.)com remove brackets from addresses

Between 1912 and 1920 (when mother's maiden name was included on the index) there is only the one Rodds/Roberts birth, which I assume is your gran. I didn't pay anything to look this up, but you have to subscribe to Family Relatives before you can do a search!! Between 1901 and 1911 there is one match for a child with surname Rodds, but obviously no mother's maiden name to help. This birth is not yet on FreeBMD. What part of the country were they living in and when did the parents marry???? (I'm sure I already know this lol as the names ring LARGE bells!!!) If you give me that info I can see if this pre-1912 entry is likely for your gran's sibling. Trying to conserve units to keep hubby happy!! Merry

Not to worry! Take a look at your other thread....I can't remember EXACTLY what I posted on there, but think it was most if not all Rodds entries available on Fam Relatives. Merry

I had a similar conversation re 1837on... lookups with Dancer a few days ago. I expect like most of us I keep all my third-party 1837 look-ups in their own folder. The computer filing system automatically keeps them in alphabetical order for quick reference before going to the site in the absence of a previous look-up. Now I would always post my intention to search before going to the site; helps prevent other helpful folks from duplicating the search...J.
