It's cheapest to buy online with a credit or debit card. You need the GRO ref number for the cert you want though - then the cost is £7. The website is : http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0 Merry |

Not sure if they take telephone orders - you'd need a credit card number in order to do it if they did , so have it ready |

On the first screen there's a box for ''Do you have the GRO ref'' (or words to that effect!) If you don't click it you will end up spending £11.50....so make sure you DO click and then on the next screen there is a place to type the ref in. merry |

I ordered my last two through the post and sent a cheque for £14 - they replied (2 weeks later) telling me that each certificate costs £8.50! (With references) Another 10 days later received my certificates - BOTH the wrong ones!! Hope you have better luck!! KK X |

If you phone the local reg office they will probably ask you to send a letter and a cheque. (some do do credit cards, but not many!) Also, many local offices do not do Family History certs (ie old ones). Also many will not do old marriage certs even if they do do births and deaths. This is because they have too many venues to search for marriages, but maybe only a very few reg offices for B's and D's. Cheapest and quickest (usually!) from GRO!! £7. Merry |
