Thanks Sam.

Her birth certificate will give you the full names of both parents, plus the address at the time she was born and the father's occupation. His marriage certificate will give just the name and occupation of his father (no mother) and the address at the time of marriage. If you are certain that both had the same mother, I would go for the birth certificate. Sam x

Please note - Family relatives will be the cheapest method for him (and quickest by far), but not necessarily for people with common names unless you can restrict the area. Merry

I think you need to order the marriage cert and once you have recieved it try to best guess the year of birth for each of them. You will need to buy some credits for one of the GRO index lookup sites and work your way through the images. As we have no real clue to what part of the country they came from (or which country for that matter!) it could be a laborious search. The good news is that I think 1837online may have a special offer on and you can get extra credits. Who knows, you might just need them Good luck Pete

(following from Pete's post)...........If he was born in 1920 or before, you could try Family Relatives. There are 19 John Deaville's born between 1901 and 1920, so would cost you about 20p to view these. Don't suppose all of them will have the right middle initial!! If you get the marriage cert as well for his age, then I would have thought at least his side shouldn't be too difficult! Good Luck Merry

It appears that John J DEAVILLE may have been married previously. Apart from the 1949 marriage to Joan McCann there is another marriage listed on StaffsBMD in 1941 Bride Alice HOUGH aka BEESLEY. Marriage in Newcastle St Giles. If this is the same man his year of birth is likely to be c 1920. Pete

You will need to buy the cert to discover ages and father's names and occupations (unless you know that already!) Merry

Why not post the details of the marriage that you have found and then the rough dates, places etc of those births that are causing you grief. Pete

Suspense is killing me! Try the Staffordshire BMD site and also the West Midlands site first. You might get lucky and they do have some records from 20th century too. http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/ http://www.bmsgh.org/wmbmd/ Pete
