Got information yesterday from Warwickshire Records Office. I had been trying to find out who Eliza Barns' parents were. She appears with her grandparents (my gt x3 grandparents Emmets & ELizab Matthews) on the 1861 Whichford, Warwicks census which says she was born in Armscott. Warks RO tracked her baptism down to Newbold on Stour - it gives her parents as John Barnes, a labourer & Charlotte. Charlotte is the name of one of Emmet's & Eliza's daughters, b. abt 1828, so that looked promising. Can I find a marriage between Charlotte & John? No. Can I find them together with their other children (George bapt 1855, Jane bapt 1858 or Ann bapt 1860? No, of course not!!! |

Have you been able to find Charlotte in 1851?? I see she isn't with her parents.........I tried all Charlottes born in Which*, and of course there was one (Matthews) but it wasn't her! I was just trying to decide which side of the 1851 census the marriage to John Barnes took place. Merry |

Barbara, Merry, Kim, Elaine Many thanks for your contributions. I think the family found in 1861 looks promising, especially as Eliza is missing - with her grandparents. Tredington is a village near Armscott, and all the children were baptised in Newbold on Stour which is the nearest big place to these villages. Am off to take a good look at the images now - and the marriage looks v. promising too! nell |

Cheers all, I think this is my lot, obviously confused about their birthplaces! Ancestry are a bit confused too, they seem to think Warwickshire and Worcestershire are the same county. It says Worcs in transcription and Warwickshire on census image in several cases! nell |

Barbara Sadly the Eliza, servant in 1871 who looked so promising - the image shows 'she' is male and in the margin someone else has written 'Elijah'! |
