Can someone confirm that if you have credits for family relatives, you can look things up but not be charged??? IE; find the entry but not see the index page. If this is correct, would someone be kind enough to have a look for death for me to save the pages I'll have to trawl on ancestry????

I'm trying to find the death of Phyllis Rosetta Leach, born 1875. Nan thinks she was dead by 1915, however as I last have her in 1898 when she married that still means almost 20 yrs to trawl. Can't find her in 1901 Would love to narrow the trawl down if possible...

Hi Shelli I does cost a little to get search results but there are some (Like myself) who are still willing to do a search. Give details and ask for a lookup. XX Suzanne

Suzanne no worries i can and will trawl ancestry..... i just had the idea in my head you could look without it costing, it only cost if you actually viewed the index page. You are right Shelli (about how to search FR), but if there's more than one result entry, then it gets too fiddly to work out when each entry occurred (though can be done!)! Don't forget you cannot search middle names on FR :o(( Merry

UPDATE I hvae searched from 1901 - 1935 for Phyllis Rosetta Leach death, and not found anything. I re-searched the 1901- 1920 bit Suzanne had kindly looked at for in case she had been put as Rosetta or Rose. AM postive hse was dead by 1935 as otherwise Nan would remember her, Nan would have been 13 by then. Nan has no recollection of her at all. Wondered if some very kind soul would look at family relative again but spelling the name LEECH instead of Leach. Everything else I have of hers is with the 'ea' spelling, but i can't discount the possilbe 'ee' spelling. Many thanks Shell

Yesterday I did a search on Leach, all forename beginning with Ph. In case the Phyllis had been spelled wrong. I didn't post the results, as apart from Phil(l)ip and Phoebe there were no other matches than the ones already given to you! Here are Leech, Ph....... (1898-1920) No Surname Forename(s) AAD District Page No Event Quarter Year 1 Leech Philip Harry 2 Portsmouth.2b 265 Death 2 1903 2 Leech Phoebe 71 Tonbridge.2a 881 Death 2 1919 3 Leech Phoebe 69 Toxteth Park.8b 180 Death 2 1918 4 Leech Phoebe A 81 West Bromwich.6b 860 Death 4 1919 5 Leech Phylis Anni M 4 Newcastle Upon Tyne.10b 7 Death 1 1904 Doesn't look good, does it?!! Could she have died with a different surname? Merry

Merry Thank you so much.....no it doesn't look good. Leach is her married surname, She had gt grandad Robert William Dayman in 1898, as s ingle mum. She then married the same yr to Robert Leach. Robert William or Bill as we knew him.... never got on with his stepfather... wouldn't ever be called Robert as he hated thename because of it's association with his stepfather. The rumour goes that another reason Bill disliked his stepfather is after a row with his mum Robert Leach locked her out of the house. It was a freezing night and this was her undoing. SO i thought the death cert might tell me how true this rumour is. Nan (bill's daughter ) has NO recollection of his Mum. She thought she was ddead by 1915, but certainly dead by 1923 when she was born. I searched until 1935 when Nan was 12, as i felt sur if her grandmother had been abounmd then nan would have some recollection?????

Why am I getting a bad feeling about this????? Your g-granddad was a teenager when his mum was locked out?? And from that moment on she was unwell and soon died? I suppose she didn't just leave home? It seems to have been commonplace for ''children'' (like your g-granddad) not to attend funerals in those days........is it possible there was some sort of coverup? Merry

PMSL prob the same bad feeling I'm getting which i why i want to order her death cert to try and solve any mystery I have no idea how old Gt Grandad was when his mum died. He left home as soon as he could and went to live with Aunt Sarah Phyliss's elder sister. Just know he didn't get on with his stepdad
